I'm currently using 275/40-17's for the rear tires and the rim width is 9.5"

My current tire height is 25.7" tall and I'm looking for another tire that is taller? How much taller could I go (who makes a taller tire that would still fit) if I stay with my current 17" rear rims???

255/50-17 is 27.1" tall

285/40-17 is a hair taller at 26"

Forgot, 275/50-17 is 27.8"

Don't guys run like 295/50/15 on 15x10 5" backspacing rims on 68-70 Chargers? I've seen some really tall tires on those.

He is looking at 17s and I think the 295/50-15 are a little short. Its what I have on my car at the moment

These are 255/50/17 all around on 17x8 wheels. As Jeff says above, they are about 27" tall.

Those 255/50-17s look great on that body style.

I use the 235/55-17's in the front of my B body and they look good. I'm running a 17x8 rim and didn't have the room to go much wider than 235.

They are an easy to get tire too...they are stock size on an Impala SS by the way. (the last of the RWD ones that is)

We've used that size alot as well, work great on all sorts of vehicles if the 275/40 is abit short and don't want to go to a 275/50.

A really good assortment of 18" stuff out there too if anyone is thinking of going 17" or 18"

just a generic question, maybe a little bit off topic... does exist 17 tires with white letters ? I think Dunlop have them in 255/55 17 or so... maybe another brand ?

How do these tires ride and handle. I was going to replace my stock 14" wheels with some 15" wheels and tires on my 64 Fury. But, I recently saw another 64 with 17" wheels and it looked pretty darn tough. Certainly gives this car the look of performance whether it has it or not. Can I expect a different feel to the car and will this affect the ride or handling in a negative way?

I don't think I could handle anything larger than 17" x 8" wheels and would have to figure out the proper tire height so it would fit in the rear well without rubbing.

Any taller than what's already been discussed and you're looking at SUV tires--I've got 255/60/17 and 235-60-17 on my Fury wagon. Other sizes you might look at are 275-55-17--they're almost 29".

And here my problems is the 265/40-18's I have are too tall, and need to go back down to a 265/35....maybe to save buying another pair of tires, I can just get some off-road springs
