Hi gang,

I stripped out one of the bolts that attaches my engine to my toque converter of my 225 engine on my '71 swinger. I know balance is critical and was wondering Heli-coil? how deep does a tap tip go? Can we ge a blunt tap? maybe use grinder to cut down a tap! Think we would have to do all four. for balance purpose? Can i tack weld the bolt to the converter?? Wondering what to do.

thanks..

Victor

no reason to do all 4 if they are not bad but the tap that comes with the kit will not get the threads to the bottom of the hole, I have never seen a bottom tap for the heli coils I have a couple from old kits that I cut off to make a bottom tap out of.

The are hardened bolts, but for a 225...

Buy a slight oversized bolt with a self tapping thread. Grind the head down so that it is shallow like the one that won't hold anymore.

Thread it in until tight and go.

That I'm aware of, a slight weight imbalance shouldn't cause much trouble. If you pick up a new vibration, you'll know where to look.

If the car is not driven hard, it should do fine. I had one like this on a street 340 for a while, no trouble.

Only way to fix correctly is to get another boss welded on the converter, or replace the converter.
