want to see some opinions on builds for a 440.
Looking to get to 750-800 hp and 700 ft lbs of torq

no power adders what so ever. must be racing fuel and not alky. single carb only and no fuel injection. must still be able to use internal oiling system.

currently we are 700 hp range and 600 lbs torq with factory stroke and 452 heads and we hit the limit now looking to go bigger. would need the power range around 6-7k rpms.

would like to stay away from the exotic heads such as brodixs and such.

i just cant seem to figure out a combo that can produce these figures.

I would strap on a set of Indy EZ's with a solid roller spec'd out and head work done by Nick at Compu-Flow
If you don't mind the extra oil lines go with the 440-1's

Lets back into this question.
What is telling you that you need 800HP, and what kind of car, what class, and what do you already have?
Is there a cubic inch limit, and is this a stock block or aftermarket?
How many runs a year does it need to make?
Any cam limitiations, chassis limitations etc?
What kind of budget are you on?

Most importantly, aside form the 800HP figure, what kind of results do you need/expect out of the combination?

this is for a 2wd mod. pulling truck.
currently is a stock crank and rod, 440 with fully ported 452 heads, team g intake and a dom 1050.
there are no cubic inch limit but this is going into a stock factory 440 block, with use of factory pickup tube. it makes 20-30 runs a year, 300 foot track. we norm freshen them every other year so i would say 50 runs on a motor. considering this is kinda last min and our season starts july 26th, on a short time frame. i would like to stay below 4,000 for rotateing ass. and heads or any other changes that would be over the current items in use.

And I can't figure out how you're making those numbers with that combo and 452 heads. Do tell...

Here is a link to GBob's engine we built early this year.

i think you might be over estimating your current HP and torque. if your looking to build an entire new combo, that's one thing, but a good set of heads ( 440-1 or victor) and cam will help actually get to the 750+ HP mark. with the stock stroke you probably won't break the 700 ft. lb mark though. the rpm range of the motor will go up considerably.
if your going to build a stroker combo, that's another matter altogether.

well lets see 13 to 1 comp pistons that stick .100 out of top of block. running .040 piston to head clearance. harland sharp 1.6 rockers, mp .590 cam 2 in upright headers

499, 13.2.comp, solid roller, 1050 dom, 440-1s, went 145+ @3280#, footbrake, leafs, 9in 4800 conv, 4.56 gear, 31in tall tire, in the mid 90s.

Drove it on the street, for almost 4 years without touching the motor except a couple Indy rockers and a set of valve springs.

I would say you are around the 525HP mark give or take 25HP.
So a true 750HP would be quite a jump!!
I would go Victor heads all the way if it were mine....

I would have to agree as we made 575 with very well ported 452's and pretty much the same combo. That little 590 cam and those heads are only good to that # in all the 590 cammed motors I have seen over a lot of years. I would say that even with nitrous that combo would not make a true 700 hp. But change the heads as above mentioned and now we are talking---Greg
