I have been told a way to check if a converter is bad it to use a set of pliers & spin the splines inside back & forth. One way should be free & the return should be friction.
This one is free both ways... Is the sprag bad inside????

If you call TA it will be! PTC is about the best for a "check out" and fix if needed--TA will charge you same as a new unit --no middle ground with them. I can't answer your original question but good luck. TA 10 in units were always a little loose in high gear--too much slip compared to other stuff IMO--I have had TA J units that were without doubt the best I have ever used FWIW

i sent my 10" t/a to ptc to have the stall tightened up and a new neck put on it, this was in july 2008 and i was charged $150.00 plus shipping.it works awesome less slippage driving around, but it will flash when u put the power to it.it was a week turn around time also.
