See attached muffler comparision chart. I used the Dynomax UltraFlo 17513. Great sound in the car, somewhat load in back of car at speed. Ron In car short video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFQ2N0mBct8

17221 3" quiet and on my (RIP) 542 with an X pipe .04 slower corked to open that's hardly any loss. got friend \s with magna flows and Flo ba$$a$4 and they are loud and resinating on the highway!

nothen sounds as good as a motor with flowmasters and a nice cam all the rest sound like glasspacks
That's because they are glasspacks. My vote is for Flowmasters.

HOOKER AERO CHAMBERS
I have a set on my pickup and they make the engine sound a lot meaner than it really is + if you run the pipes out the back they are pretty decent as far as interior noise goes.
There is a muffler flow chart somewhere on the net, but I can't find it. The Hooker Max Flow and some of the Borla mufflers were at the top of the list. The Aero Chamber scored well too IIRC.

Not a fan of chambered mufflers. Do you really want the flow battling itself to find a way out? I don't. Magnaflows have a tame, but deep, idle and bark real nice under heavy throttle. I run them now, and would buy them again in a heartbeat.
About a year ago I read a SAE article on high performance exhaust design. It was very technical with a lot of considerations on how to size and place the muffler and pipes to create a system that has no loss compared to open headers.
The two things I took from this article is that all performance mufflers sized properly flow more than than the engine generates and that it is easier to design a no loss system with chambered mufflers than it is with straight thru mufflers like the magnaflow or ultra flo.
After that article I just tell people to pick what sounds good to them.
