I got a pair of 10" x 15" slotted mags for the rear of my '71 Charger, and I want some serious tires that will make my car as rude and offensive looking as possible.....you know, like something out of the 70s with the tires sticking out further than the wheelwells etc. And I don't think that P295/50R15s will cut it, and I know those wheels can take something bigger and wider than that. Does anyone know of a source of bigger tires that have full street tread, plus are white letter style? I don't see anything on Summit and Jegs. Dave RainBoKatchr@aol.com

Dave, check with your inspection gargage some states like PA this is illegal.
As far as tire companies...Mickey Thompson makes them as well as hoosier. Im sure theres more, thats just off the top of my head.

Dave, I am in the same boat as you. I want a nice wide beefy looking tire. I'm running 275/60/15 on the back of my sig car and they do not have that wide look at all on this large of a car, especially with the lifted rear end my car has. 295/50's would be a small amount wider but also shorter. The size I found would look good would be 325/50/15. Nobody makes it in a street radial, you'd have to step up to a drag radial at the minimum. I think the most streetable tires would be the BFG G-Force Drag Radials in that size or the Nitto DR's in that size. But both are going to have less tread and wear away faster than a rock hard street radial. Then after that your choices really are tires like M/T, Hoosier, with even less street tread. Good tires for dry traction, not so sure about driving in the rain with them...

No offense, but that sounds rediculous "out past the wheel wells". It's very "early 70's and didn't know better" looking.
I'd hit the local flea market for old 70's JCwhitney catologs or some old Super Chevy mags to see how that would look.
I agree the fat tires are awesome looking on a 71 Charger IF they fit under the wheel well opening.
You want the "Offensive look"? Go with stupid wide 50's that hang out.
You want a Wide stance that compliments the Nascar Racing design of the car, keep 'em tucked in.

FYI, I did what you are considering 20 years ago with my 70 Challenger R/T. 15x10's w/Mickey Thompson N50's looked "really cool" until the air shocks let go and the 1/2 mile drive home wore thru the bondo'd wheel well openings.

You must have never owned a 71-74 dodge or plymouth B body or you'd know these cars have huge wheel wells. My 275's that'd do a decent job of filling the wheel well of your challenger don't look like much when stuffed in the back of my wheel wells. There is a LOT of free real estate back there for the taking.

Do you have any experience with these tires? I always thought they were another d/r but their website says they are a regular street tire, NOT a drag tire and they do have more tread depth than a d/r like the bfg's. I'm guessing traction wise is going to be on par with regular street tires, could be a good alternative to guys who want a wide regular street tire.
The bad news is they are $260 a piece at summit where comparable bfg or mickey d/r's are more like $190 a piece.

I've owned two 71's among my many mopars over the past 23 years, and my current project is 71 Charger SE. Yes there's lots of "Real estate" back there and YES it must be used tastefully. One above poster mentioned using 15x10's w/ a 5" B.S.  The smart use of the 5" BS as opposed to the "I'm Still in High school cool fat tires hanging out look". I think the original poster's proposed look for his charger looks just as bad on every Camaro and Firechicken i've seeen them on. Our Mopars deserve better than than. While he's at it, I can mail him a really cool 70's Racoon Tail to hang off his radio antenna and I might even throw in a pair of fuzzy dice for the rear view mirror. Amodern day comparison is these Rice Burners with huge Non-purposeful aftermarket wings hanging off the rear of their "10 second" cars.

Well you can't tell a guy what he wants. I love the big tire look on these cars, but I agree, the tires have to stay inside the wheel wells. That means careful attention to backspacing and quite possibly spring relocation. But since that is not at all what the OP wants is it a moot point I guess.

I am the original poster for this thread, and I am replying to Hoof Hearted, who made the gracious offer of mailing me a racoon tail to hang off my antenna.
I am aware of the possible problems with air shocks losing pressure if you are totally relying on them to have tire clearance, however the situation with the Charger is quite different from that of a Challenger, given the high wheel openings and factory rake of the Charger: I plan on installing air shocks, but even if they lost pressure, I would still have clearance between the top of the tire and the sheetmetal (unless, of course, I were to go over a bump fast, or corner fast).

I have a set of M/T n50 15 on my saty thay are almost 12"wide and even though thay are not radials thay are fat and classic these are 10x15 centerlines
(they fit great on trucks still running little 15" wheels..)
