One of my freind's dad has what I believe is a 65 Coronet Convertable with a 383 numbers matching complete car. The year is what I am not 100% on. I robbed a kick down linkage off of it at the time for my 64 plymouth and did not pay a lot of attention to the car. 2 years later looking back on it I would like to buy it for another project. It is shot and has been sitting outside since the 70's. I did not look at the badges much however I have found that there are Coronet 440's and 500's. What is the difference? Are only the convertables a 500 or 440 model? I am assuming the difference is trim packages however I would like to know the details. Please forgive my ignorance in regards to knowing anything about this model mopar. I am always trying to absorb any information I can so feel free to go on a rampage if you are a wealth of knowledge.

deluxe, 440, 500, are different models and you are right it is trim level. I believe the convertable availability changes by year.

A 500 model will have bucket seats with console.
A convert can be a 500 or 440 model.
The 500 model has wide rocker moldings and wheel
well moldings,im not sure if the 440 has ww moldings. The 500 has a pot metal trunk lid finish panel.

It is a 500 then. I distinctly remember it having the bucket seats and center console.

I've never seen an original 65 Coronet bucket seat 440 car. None of my sales brochures list buckets/console as an option for a 440. Is yours original? If so, that would be rare indeed.

we bought the car used.It had a 273 and we are working on it now.I stripped out the interior, and have no reason to believe the bucket seats and console are not original, but nothing would surprise me.I can email you some images.I can't seem to figure out how to post them here yet.

Good info. I didn't see the footnote for the supposed 1966 Coronet 500 hemi wagon. I've heard there is a build sheet, but no car.
