The AFR was att 12.2-1 with the e-85 and the VP fuel.

It made some nice nr's.

Don't know, but you can go to a 13:1 A/F with E85. I would say that if the E85 didn't make more somethings wrong.

From what I have heard in-the-past .. isn't 13 to 1 a little lean ? .....

I have no experience at this .. but the more chat I hear about E85 .. the better I like it.

It's lean, but not enough to hurt anything. I've been leaner, but power just starts to fall off.

Ok then somthing must be wrong then.

We test the timing and AFR upp and down and this was the best we came to:

E-85
730Ft/lbs@5000rpm
780Hp@6000rpm

Vp-109
766Ft/lbs@5100rpm
841Hp@6150rpm
pulling hard to 7000rpm, still over 800Hp.

I can't scan and post the dyno dokument right now.

Sound like some excellent number.

I have a similar combo with less lift and duration. My cam is 269int and 273ex lit is at 696. my engine only made 761hp at 6200 wiht indy heads flowing 358 at 700. Tq 695.
My car ran great its a 69RR weight is 2888 readky to race and it went 9.28 at 3700 corrected altitude.
Keep us posted how your car runs so we can see how your dyno # match to track resutls.

I will post you some ET numbers when i get some.
The heads earlier made 820Hp on one other engine and dyno. That motor had an smaler cam and less comp.
The thing that konfused me was the bigg diff in power betwen e-85 and VP fuel. 60Hp and over 30 Ft/lbs is a lott djust swithing carb!

if that e85 carb is a 4150 carb, throw that test out the window

I seem to remember E85 needing an A/F ratio of something around 10:1. Is the number from a wide band sensor or calculated from fuel and air flows? Also, E85 has a much lower Motor Octane Number MON rating (~90), probably about ten points lower than the VP fuel. Was the MBT timing the same for both fuels?

Get your A/F ratio corrected for E-85 and you'll see it kick azz.
Stoich is 9.765-1, maxpower rich is 6.975-1. So I's say you're wayyyyyyy lean. That's another nice feature of E-85, it's alot more forgiving than straight gasoline. Try going that much lean on gas once and you'll have an expensive paperweight.Dave

Nice to see they worked out so good for you
I guess you didnīt run this last weekend.

The e-85 carb is a brand new 4500 from Garry Williams.
The dyno has a wide band lamda.
We tested up and down with bouth timing and afr.

I was disappointed when it gave more of gasoline and the guy who owns dynon laughed because he had said that vp-109 petrol was better before we tested.

So i dont know what went wrong

Hi Tom!

No, I drove nothing. the car was completed late Friday night and the weather was too bad for the trail all the way to Orsa.
Excuse for the wrong data about your power. Blame my bad memory.

something is wrong somewhere. I've yet to switch one without picking up. We use a gas A/F meter and tune very close to gas ratios. It is more forgiving than gas, but I just go to max power and that's where the A/F stays. we have a 615 single 4 on the dyno right now that has 60+HP spread from one carb to the other on the same fuel, so that's no surprise. Patrick from prosystems carbs. The one that makes more is only .070 larger bore, it's 40 more average and over 60 more peak. I know Gw can make a gas carb work, but maybe somethings off with E85. there's more 02, volume, and cooling with E85, so don't give up yet. Get the right carb on it and it will pick up.

I didnt dyno test my change but on track
the switch to E-85 the car ran IDENTICAL but I didnt
make a single change other than the carb and fuel,
I still havent tweeked in jetting or timing.... so
it wasnt less power thats for sure.... JMO

Did you test the E85 for actual content? I tested a couple stations this week and am still finding E70-E73.
People are buying less because gas prices aren't that much different from E85. Don
