My buddy just got his b1 motor back and is trying to prime the oil system with a drill and cannot get any oil to the heads. It is pushrod oiling, no spray bars in the valve covers yet. Any ideas what is going on?

Roll the engine over with a breaker bar, the oiling
holes in the lifters might nnot be lining up...
hopefully the bushings were drilled in the lifter bores

He said he knew they were drilled in the bushings. He also said he tried turning the motor over while using the drill as well?

Had a problem whereby no oil was getting to pas side rocker shaft , turned out the rocker shaft pedestal did'nt line up with the oil hole in block , the fix was to drill the pedestal out.

Spin the motor so #8 ex valve is just closing from fully open , this will line the cam bearing to oil way on pas bank , another 270* crank rotation will get the drivers side lined up , i found removing rocker shaft bolt will speed thing up regards oiling to heads.

The oil holes in the rocker shafts may not be in the correct spot. make sure they are pointing toward the pushrod. There is a little diagram at www.b1heads.com under the q&a then diagrams

He's using pushrod oiling.... might have to notch
the lifter like shown above

stupid question but i assume it's building reasonable pressure at the back of the engine?

Rocker adjustment bolt will not transfer oil to the rocker body if there more than 2 1/2 or more turns out.

I certainly would'nt rely on PR oiling alone , why block the oil feed off to the heads? , maybe restrict it yes , done more than my fair share of damage with spray bar oiling , those holes get blocked follwed by breakages , i run the indy heads but also had issues with the B1s.

depending on what rocker assembly he's using they may not have provisions for oiling thru the shaft so PR oiling must be used.

I would rather have push rod oil over shaft oiling JMO
