Who would win? Cuda 340 Comp XE268, Edelbrock LD340, Ported 2.02 J heads, Thermoquad, Hooker header's, Flowmaster super 40's with 3.23 Sure-grip vs kid who says he would smoke me with his 2002 subaru impreza wrx with exhaust and upgraded turbo. Just curious

The cuda is a 4 gear right?

If the suburau was an auto, and the kid doesn't know how to drive it, it would be closer, but I have tio agree that it will win.

The 340 will have to be beefed up quite a bit in the area of cam and gear to pull off a win.

theres a local kid here at my track that raced me a few years back with a WRX, my old cuda ran a 6.95 to his 6.97...He said he was putting 35 psi to it, with street tires..The cuda would run 10.90's in the 1/4 on motor..Phill

The real question, is it a STI? Is the kid willing to launch it hard? aka bounce it off the limiter and dump the clutch? If you answered yes to either of those, you're losing for sure.

If its just a regular WRX and the kid drives like a girl, you might have a chance, but my money is still on the WRX.

Me racing against my buddies STI, he has out MPH'd me a couple times, but his AWD is no match for my big converter and sticky tires.

what's your cuda weigh? That's not much of a 340...meaning it's a little warmed up but I'm guessing you're in the 13.50 range??? Those cars can run easy 12's w/o much tweaking. I've seen them in street trim run 11's.
I'd say your heavy cuda + 340 + 3.23 = loss in this case.

I'm gonna have to agree with the other fellas on this one. If that Subaru is an STI then do NOT run him. Even if it's the regular WRX, he will still probably outrun you w/ the mod's he's done. Those are quick little cars! Seen many an STI here w/ basic mods running in the 11s. CHIP

The subaru is only a wrx with a stick shift, cuda is a 4 speed. I don't know how well the kid can drive it, but this is what I was afraid That I would hear . Any opinions on upgrades to help beat him, I was considering a 750 double pumper/Demonsizzler Thermoquad, a swap to 3.55's or 3.73's and hopefully some bigger tires in the rear.

Stock 2002 WRX non-STI is a 14 second ride at best. All depends on whats been done to it . I say probably a very close race and you might have the edge if you can hook.

That makes no sense ...... care to expand?
The WRX is AWD, its gotta hook no matter where they race.

As far as what to do to the 340, it needs more gear, more converter and probably more carb before I would say you've got a shot. Short stroke needs to rev, 3.23's aren't the ticket for that.

more gear, try a set of 1.6 rollers (will give you more cam) You will need slicks if you want to compete. try a 750DP w/ a 1/2" spacer. You could also try a set of cut-outs or un-cap your exhaust.

My other car is a 2002 Subaru WRX. If I drove it hard off the line, its AWD would ensure a killer holeshot on your car on the street OR the track and leave you praying you had enough HP to catch me on the top end. After loooking over your combination, I'd say you don't have it.

I'd think it would be the other way around. Street = terrible traction. either way I don't think you have enough, even if you were in an A-body you'd have an uphill battle. What's your car weigh? 3600-3800? that's a lot of weight for a 340 to move out

depends on the street...seen some RWD cars hook like crazy on the street, now the question is...Do you really need to beat this kid? If you can go to the track sometime he is running and see how he drives and what the car runs, then see what yours runs if you dont know already. If he is faster get some gears, tire, and some other items that were suggested. Oh and if you have full interior, spare, and other things...it can always come out to save a little wieght

Goodluck, hope you teach him that 40 year old technology can still hang

At test and tune wednesday there was one of those running, impressed me enough to walk over and take a look. Your cuda wouldn't have a chance.

I did the first few times I saw it, but it kept coming back to the top, taunting me...
Plus the question was answered about 15 different ways, all with the OP coming in second...

I went for a ride in the kids subaru and I doubt it has the upgrades he says; the only one I know it has is the exhaust. Car didn't pull nearly as hard as I expected. Im guessing just a stock wrx with the exhaust.

first thing i would do is ditch those 3.23's and go with atleast 3.91's (if its a street car and you want good compromise gear that is the one to have imo)...also, those chokemasters are probably gonna eat a tenth of your times, plus they sound like [Edited by Moparts - Keep it clean]- get a nice straight through like a dynomax, pypes, borla, etc....also, what kind and size tires are you running? mt e/t street radials are some of the best out there right now...i dont know much about jap cars, but say you have a shot at him...people always go by what the cars specs are, but if the guy cant drive for [Edited by Moparts - Keep it clean] or conditions are bad then it doesnt matter how much power the car has...good luck man...theres a guy in a fully tuned wrx who comes down my street every day staring at me workin on my scamp and whippin through the gears so i can hear his blowoff valve...cant wait to follow him down the street and lay him a spanking too

BF Goodrich Radial T/A's 225/70-14 (only size they had at the time and I needed tires) so I know I won't be able to hook that good. Hoping to get some 245/60's soon.
