3500 lbs ebody, low deck 500, 10.5:1, Stage 6 heads MW size and ported, 950 carb, 4/5 speed, 3.91 gear. I use it on the street but want good performance at the 1/4. Solid roller cam only.

Indy intake and TTI 2 inch, stepped I think.
I was thinking about a comp 308R(575 lift roller)

308 is a lot of duration for the street I think, even at that displacement. To be clear the 308R on COMPs site is a 650+ lift lobe, not the 575 you've mentioned.

The better your heads the less I'd try to cover it up with such a big CAM. You'd do better with a smaller CAM overall. I see the next step down in size is a 292R though and that might be a great street strip CAM, but might be leaving a small bit of potential on the table. But a 308R might kill enough bottom end, idle and other street characteristics that you might not end up liking it. COMP recommend 12+ compression with that CAM, where as they like 10.5 for the 292R. I and a number of guys have run the 286R cam in small blocks and like it very well. While a 292R might also be streetable, I'd have to give up a decent idle speed to pick up a small bump in top end RPM range. Since you're heads are going to flow way better than mine, you might find that you don't need as much CAM to extract a great amount from that many cubes.

It's all subjective. What you consider streetable isn't neccessarily what others will think is streetable. If you can better quantify what matters to you for idle speed, temps, vacuum, exhaust noise etc. Maybe someone can do a better job helping you sort that out.

Greg

Cam that is available says 262 at 50 and 575 lift for both intake and exhaust. Advertised at 308 Duration. Actually does say 308R on the cam card.

I see. You're looking at this one:
http://www.compcams.com/Cam_Specs/CamDetails.aspx?csid=739&sb=1

I was looking at this one:
http://www.compcams.com/Cam_Specs/CamDetails.aspx?csid=744&sb=1

The 292 I was referring to was actually the XR292R:
http://www.compcams.com/Cam_Specs/CamDetails.aspx?csid=743&sb=1

My mistake. The one you're looking at is just a less agressive ramp and probalby needs less springs etc. Personally I'd go for the more agressive ramp. You get more area under the lift curve, for the same or less seat to seat valve timing. The XR292R is spec'd slightly smaller, but lifts more and gets off the seat more quickly, having effectivley around the same overall area under the curve as the 3008R, and probalby make more power, and especially make more torque in the lower RPMS, idle better and pull more vacuum.

Greg

I have the comp XR286R in a .030 over 440. The motor is in a 3850 lbs E-body. Indy SRs MW intake port and ported 11.1 ported indy duelplane. 727 with low first gear set and a 3.55 gear.
The motor made peak power @ 6500 on the dyno and idles at 1100 RPMs. My little motor seems to move my tank around ok. That XR292R may be just the ticket for your combo.

I currently run the XR286R in my challenger car will go quicker as that is my first time out messing with the whole new setup.... so far my car et'd quicker shifting at 6000 instead of 6500 probably due to being a stroker.... Id say 6000 rpm is not beating on it at all remember those cam car specs are for a 440 and a stroke will bring the powerband down a few hundred rpms....

Indy EZ'z MW cnc ported
11.1 to 1
Straight 93 pump
2" TTI headers
3800lbs with driver
ET street radials

I would contact Dwayne @ porter racing heads.
have him custom spec a comp roller for your combo.

The price is virtually the same regardles if you buy an off the shelf cam from mail order vendors or a custom speced one from him.

He knows what cam lobe profiles work on the street.

As an example: He speced a solid roller Comp cam for my combo. 540ci
10.0/1
Stage vi max wd. size
1050 dom.
2 1/8 tti step headers
very similar to your combo

260 deg intake 266 exhaust lobe sep 114 deg
.631" lift int and ex.

4149b intake lobe profile
4020b exhaust lobe profile

I run the XR280R in a 470" LD(street car)10.2:1,OOTB EDDY heads.Great cam, decent idle(12" vac)at 850 rpm.Pulls hard from 2k on up!I would think with 500" and MW heads the XR292R would work well, but may leave a little on the top end.As stated above,a custom would no doubt be best. Good luck with your build.

The 292 street roller would be a good choice. I've run the 298 street roller and it makes great power in a 500 inch motor but the idle is pretty knarly. The 292 would tame down the idle a bit but still give you plenty of power.

That's a big motor go with your first choice.
Will act like a 286 in a 440 cuber

I have a 268/270 @ .050 114 lode center and .630 lift (Not sure the advertised but about 308/314 by my measurements) for sale with used comp cam lifters. I had it reground from a big cam and used it in my 10.5 to one 452 with indy heads. ran 10.85 at TO to weeks ago @ 3625 lb I could flat foot it at 2000 with no bog but it drove through my 4000 stall for a second or two. would be the cats ??? in a 500 have springs and titanium retainers too!
