When I bought my 70 Challenger it had an MAS racing fiberglass universal TA / AAR spoiler on it. This MAS spoiler does not actually resemble either the TA or the AAR spoiler, but it is closer to the TA spoiler. It weighs 4.5 pounds.

I wanted a spoiler that looked more like a real TA spoiler, so I ordered a fiberglass reproduction from Year One. It does look like a TA spoiler. It had normal fiberglass issues (molding lines/gelcoat pinholes), but nothing a little bit of sandpaper and primer couldn't cure. Only real problem is that it weighs 7 pounds. I think that's a bit more than the originals weigh, and I had trouble getting the trunk lid springs adjusted properly so that the trunk lid would open Without FLYING open.

Years later I heard about First Place Auto Products. They also make TA spoilers and have a reputation for making high quality products. So I thought I'd order up a new reproduction TA spoiler from them and it'd be like the originals were. I got it yesterday. It's made from Thick black plastic and weighs 6.75 pounds. Definitely a very nice spoiler, with heavy duty attaching hardware.

Originals were a Thin poly plastic like the front spoilers I think. They didn't weigh much. I've seen two like that off of cars. One at a swapmeet and another at a junkyard (had a split in it). Does anyone know how much an original TA spoiler weighs?

Tav - I don't know how much an original weighs, but they were not light like the front spoilers. I have compared the OEM vs. the FPAP repro and they are very close. I'm pretty sure they are made out of the same material. I never weighed them though.

Thanks Floyd. After looking at a couple on ebay that claimed to be original I began to wonder.

I wonder who made the two thin lightweight plastic ones I saw? Maybe they're for another type of car? They sure LOOKED like TA spoilers, top & bottom. I'm sure they were at least 15 or 20 years old, beyond that I'm not sure. Did anyone make reproductions fitting this description? It was about a year ago that I saw the split one in the Junkyard. I've seen it there a couple times. If it's still there next time I go back maybe I'll buy it as a curiosity.

So, which hole should the trunk torsion springs be located in for proper trunk operation on a TA?

Found someone with an original TA spoiler. It weighs 5.95 pounds.

All weights in this thread include spoiler & mounting hardware.

Don't know if this is helpful or not.

The spoiler that was originally on my car as seen in my sig was a fiberglass unit bought from YO in the 80s. The look of it was excellent and bolted up just like the originals.

I decided to go with one made out of plastic like the originals and bought one of the Dale's Cuda Shop Reproduction ones. I'm not sure of the weight, but it looked just like the old YO unit only it was not fiberglass.
