long story and it involves a lot of expensive whizz bang gee whiz go fast stuff.....

engine is a small block, 302 heads, mopar cam with 1.6 indy roller rockers and schubeck lifters. I've got mp 4120249s springs on the heavily ported 302 heads now. closed pressure on those springs is 90#s and open is 230. I'm learning I need to run 200# on the seat to prevent bounce which apparently ruins the ceramic bottom on the schubecks. I've spent the last couple of days reading and researching and now turn to the experts on this board - how would you get there? this is my first time through a high performance engine build. be gentle please

Can you give some more details about this combo? Are you limited to the 302 heads? I'd guess rules require them?

this car hasn't seen the street yet. it's been a 5 year project and my goal (kind of a bucket list thing - i've had 3 brushes with cancer and am cancer free for now) is to race it this summer - I'm new at this even tho I was born before 1950.

here's more specific info - 318 bored .030 over, block is decked - pistons are .00 KB167 hypereutectics - 9.7:1 compression, rotating assembly balanced, cam is a mopar performance P4452759 .430"/.450" lift, 260/268 duration cam,Indy 1.6:1 roller rockers, 302 heads with 1.88 intake and 1.60 exhaust, well ported, bowl blended short turn radius cleaned up, Dougs 450 headers, quickfuel technology 680 cfm carb with vacuum secondaries.

The MP cam doesn't need or want much spring,I can't see a reason to put a $$$$ lifter on a cam and combo like this. My first thought is buy a quality lifter and keep the springs you have, sell the Shuebeck lifters.Unless you've done something(s) to increase the installed height you'll be limited on spring choices if you can find one at all. Hopefully someone will search for something usable.Good luck with the health

The camshaft, are you giving the numbers factoring in the 1.6 ratio rockers or is that the numbers with the stock 1.5's?

those are 1.5 ratio lift #'s IIRC...with 1.6's it'll be .459/.480

I agree, sell the lifters, just pick up a set of normal lifters and be done with it.

what's you're installed height? to get 200 lbs seat pressure, you'll probably need double or triple springs.

for the $$ you spent on the schubecks you coulda had a nice retrofit roller cam and roller lifters. or you coulda started with an '85 up block and used OEM roller lifters....

one other question; did schubeck make hydraulic lifters? I thought they only made solids....I wouldn't run a solid lifter on a hydraulic cam.
