On my Dakota clip from a Dakota that had a 318 FI (5.2?) my engine had to move back about 4 inches so I used the original style motor mounts and with a piece of flat plate to extend the engine mounting surface by the required amount. Much to my surprise (shock) the top and bottom original moulded rad hoses fit the Dakota rad perfectly.

When I used a 90 Dakota frame under my 48 Plymouth business coupe, I used the Dakota V6 (a Dakota never had a slant 6 that I know of) motor mounts welded to a 1/4" plate shifted back about 4-6" (have to move the trans crossmember back the same amount as well). I kept the distance between the motor and the firewall (I also used the Dakota firewall) the same distance apart as it was in the Dakota and that allowed me to use nearly all the Dakota connecting parts on my coupe. If you use a Dakota steering column, you will probably want a double U joint for the steering column at the steering rack.

Sniper master S Joined: May 2019 Posts: 6,236 nowhere	A 90 Dakota had a 4 banger and a V6. The V6 was essentially a 318 with two cylinders lopped off. If you had the V6 those mounts will work on an LA, you will likely need to put spacers in the driver's side mount to get the bracket to line up with the ears on the 360 block. Obviously you will need to verify and adjust the fore and aft placement. Not sure about the 4 banger setup.

If the 4 cylinder brackets won't work (it would surprise me if they also fit the V6 or the V8 motors) the brackets simply unbolt. We are talking about a rear wheel drive Dakota here, the Dakota 4x4 motor mount brackets are completely different, and the 4x4 Dakota also has a steering box instead of a rack & pinion system, and a different front (and transmission) crossmember designs and locations. A Dakota 4x4 also has the rear axle below the leaf springs. A Dakota 4x4 also has torsion bars instead of coil springs like the rear wheel drive frame has. Rear drive and 4x4 Dakota frames are completely different frames.

poorboy I Live Here Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 10,550 Freeport IL USA	Yep, missed that. We also need to clear up that that motor setback works on Dakota frames in older 30-40s cars, but not into trucks. The truck engine compartment is usually too crowded to move the motor back.
