I need to buy a battery for my cuda that I relocated to the inside of the trunk. This is probably a dumb question, but do I need to buy a vented battery or a regular sealed battery? I ran the hose from the battery box to the outside of the car, just not sure which style battery to get.

Some sealed batteries are still vented but don't leak liquids.

Many of the modern cars use a fully sealed battery with a vent hose on the battery top.. They don't have problems with rust in the car.

I ran a traditional sealed battery in the truck of my Challenger with a vented box and rust happened all around the box on that side of the trunk.

I am sold to get a fully sealed battery with a vent hose like modern trunk mounted batteries are in BMWs' and others.

AGM I had a reproduction FLOODED battery in my '68 RR and then had a voltage regulator fail and over charge the battery. Of course, the battery sprayed the acid all over the engine compartment and ruined the paint. With an AGM there's less acid that would have escaped the battery as it is in the Absorbent Glass Mat. Also they are less vented and can be slightly tipped for some situations. Motorcycles such as dirt bikes and adventure bikes because of there bouncing and high vibrations use only AGM batteries. There's also Lithium-Ion batteries but expensive and maybe not worth it for your application but you could if you wanted mount them on their side, Just throwing that one out there.

Sealed batteries still have vents to prevent over pressure sufficient to rupture the case. They are just what's called calve regulated, as in not open to atmosphere normally, which is how the old style vents are.

Even AGRs will have them and they will still vent acid if they pop open. How much is really irrelevant since it will damage your stuff anyway.

A bad regulator that full fields your alternator will take any battery out if run long enough. Lost an Optima that way back in the 90's and yes, the vents vented.

A lithium battery is a bad choice unless your charging system is designed to charge lithium batteries. They are different.

A vent hose should of course be vented outside of the trunk.
For any battery, I put them in a case - plastic boat/RV cases work fine, and they're inexpensive.
That way, not only is the trunk protected, but nothing can flop around and find the + terminal.
Or, if you want ballast back there, buy or fab a heavy box.

I bought one of the taylor aluminum boxes. So from my understanding, they're all going to let of vapors, no matter which kind of battery, so I should be fine with the hose from the battery box going outside of the car?

Yes. And I can't recall ever smelling a battery - or batteries - in my trunk, and I've had them there on several cars.
Only battery I can recall with a leak was a junk new battery from WalMart about 14 years ago.
That one was in the stock underhood location, and it ate some battery tray paint.

I've run AGM batteries without any special vent systems in the trunk of my race car as well as underhood of my trucks with no corrosion issues.

The late model Challengers, Chargers, and 300s have their batteries in the trunk. They are big, powerful, and vented. I get mine from the late model wrecking yards. Usually a year old or so and under $40. With a warranty.
