I have a 2013 SRT that ate the camshaft up. Its a Non MDS motor. I bought the new lifters and camshaft from the dealer. The camshaft they sent me is for a MDS motor. Can I use that cam? The lifters are non mds as they should be.

Thanks

Sounds like the dealer gave you the wrong cam, I didn't think any SRT engine was MDS ???

Might want to ask this is the Gen3 Hemi forum also?

Why don't you post this question in the new hemi forum, this forum is mainly for the Mopar V8 motors made before 1990 scope work shruggy

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

The MDS disables the lifter so i would think it shouldn't make a difference. But i would check with the dealer you got it from.

Mds cam in non mds application should be fine. Mds is not activated by the cam, but by the lifters and mds solenoids and assoc
iated cpu. Look online, there is mds block off solenoids for use with mds cams

Thanks for that correction , so what would be different between an MDS cam and a non MDS cam if it's the lifters that are different , or are the SRT engines that were MDS and others that were not but usedthe same cam specs ?

I understand that but isn't the SRT engine about 80HP more than the standard Hemi ? What gives the extra 80 HP if they use the same cams ?

I'm pretty sure the cams are not the same. Compare the part numbers.

I thought this was gonna come up and doubted myself for a second, but no, its the same part number. PN#5038419AB. That came up for his year challenger, charger, jeep, and a 2016 challenger, charger, jeep with a 6.4. Thats from mopar parts direct. If I'm wrong, I'll eat crow, but I'm pretty darn sure the cams are the same and the lifters and the mds actuators are the difference, amongst other small nuances.

There is cams for both mds 6.4SRT8 and non mds cams for srt8 they are almost the same and both will perform basically the same if used in an engine without mds. You do not want to put a non mds cam in an engine with mds though. They were all rated at or near 485hp.

There is also a truck 6.4 cam that is a little smaller and it has mds and the whole engine is down about 75 hp because it has lower compression pistons, worse exhaust and the smaller cam. They came with mds in 2500 and 3500 rams.

The only one I am not sure about is in the trucks bigger than 1 ton, there may be a non mds cam for them.

Dave, I consider you the go to guy for these engines. With that being said, please post the cam part numbers to clarify for everyone.

I'm not up on the Gen 3 at all and didn't know that the 2013 was a 6.4 , I was thinking 5.7 so thanks for the clarification .

I'll go back to lurking now coffee
