I have a '70 Javelin that I am going to race at the local autocross track for fun, nothing serious. I'm thinking of racing in the "Vintage" class which let's me do pretty much what I want to to the car. I'm looking for ideas on how to get the car to handle better. Again, don't expect to win anything, just wanting to have fun and be somewhat competitive. I've seen suspension kits from Control Freak that I would love to have but I'm not going to spend $4-5K for front suspension and another $2+K for the rear.

Any AMC experts out there with ideas on how to improve the handling of this Mopar red-headed stepchild??

I'm no expert but you can read what I did to my 71 Javelin here. My car does have a different front end set up from yours though. Basically I used dodge ball joints and a mono ball for the lower control arm, then a off the shelf coil over kit. I think it was for a GM car.
