There I am showing total exhaustion at the '89 Mopar Nats, out in the hotel parking lot.

The sticker shot is a little more recent.

Just a young buck. I had the GTX by then, too.

Nice!

I like the wheel covers. So many cars came with those from the factory but you hardly ever see them on restored cars these days.

It had cragars when I first bought it, looked amazing, then they corroded and peeled.
came with the stock wheel covers but I guess they trashed the original wheels.

Switched to Ford 14x7 magnum-appearing rallyes, basically same as the mopar road wheels but wider. It looked alot more grown up.

Once in awhile I would take the trim rings off and pop the wheels covers on, which just cleared the center caps.

I only made the trip once; it was in Indy .. 94 right?

I have pics from that year .. mostly race cars brought the black cloud with and she got all crabby after the 2nd day and I tired of listening of her complaining I went home.

I couldn't hardly afford to do anything to the cars back then, but I remember when it moved to Indy that's when I gave up and skipped it entirely.

Whatever the event would have cost me all went into GTX instead, and was well worth it, no regrets.

that same year. In '88/'89/'90/'91 I drove my bronze '69 300 convertible to Columbus.
Nice looking Charger..383 car?

Haven't missed the Mopar Nats since 1986. My first one was in 1984 at the Indy 500 track, had to hitchhike down because my 70 Duster had 4.88 gears and I had no gas money anyway...LOL. Here is the car in 1981, sold it to a friend in 1984 before I moved to South Carolina to go to college, still have the woman though. My buddy Steve won the 67 Barracuda giveaway car in 1991 and had it when he passed two years ago, his son has it now! angel

I went to the Michigan one as well. Do not remember what year (years?) that was. Milan Dragway, right?

Probably the 85 Mopar Nats, (but could have been 83) racing was at Milan car show was at the Chrysler Chelsea Proving grounds.

82 was at Mid America Raceway in Wentzville MO. I went in on Sunday afternoon and only a few cars were still there.
83 was in Michigan, not sure if it was Milan.
84 Was at the Indy 500 track. My first official year that I count as attending.
85 Michigan again.
86 National Trails in Columbus OH.
87 National Trails in Columbus OH.
88 National Trails in Columbus OH.
89 National Trails in Columbus OH.

And so on. laugh2

I've got pics from that era, I need to scan them.
I've been at the Nats every year since 84.

1985: Friday was at a hotel in Ann Arbor IIRC (Hilton?) Car show in the parking lot
Saturday was at Milan Dragway...my first time ever at that track...it was a blast!
Sunday was at the Chrysler proving grounds in Chelsea, not too far from the previous two days events.

Thank you.

318, ps/pb/ac.

It doesn't look very good anymore, it was painted with lacquer and the job totally failed many years ago but
it's next in line after the GTX and I hope to eventually get it looking better than ever.

I'm a little more confident after all the practice I got on the GTX over the past few years, it's going to be good to strip it and do it right.

Graduated high school that year. Our world seemed to be very small, the Nats was something we read about in Mopar Action but couldn’t imagine going to.

I still haven’t been to one.

Sadly most Mopar days are dwindling in numbers except for a few of the big shows.

Where was I during that show?

Probably on the phone yelling at the bank, the title company or the inspectors while my lawyer was trying to get the closing scheduled before we lost the lock in rate on our house. rolleyes

I was at the 1985 & the 1988 Nationals & years later in 2004, but that's it.

I was only at the mopar nats once in 1990. Brice road was awesome also until the cops/helicopter broke it up.

I was at that MoPar Mats, I attended every year straight from 1985_2014. I usually took the Sport Fury up but that year I believe I drove my 76 Volare /6 with studded snow tires. The sparky burnouts were a big hit.

It’s QQ1, I’m not planning on changing it.
The lacquer job was off slightly, the guy I bought it from said it was painted some kind of GM blue. Lucerne? Or something.

I may paint the roof as i am totally fed up with vinyl roofs and don’t want them anymore,
I like the contrasting color And have considered an “effect” white (with a blue pearl, for instance).

Yup... I've been to the Packard Proving grounds show, a handful of times...
To me though, just not the same, as back in the day, at the Chrysler Parts Depot parking lot.
Also miss the old VFW car show on Gratiot Ave. north of 10 mile. That used to be a great show, all makes and model's, but still a great time at that show every year! Can't forget about the old Street Machine Nationals at the fairgrounds off of 8 mile...good times!
I'm feeling really nostalgic..lol. laugh2

I was there somewhere! I always stayed somewhere on Brice Rd. thru 1991. Missed a few years and then started staying over at The airport at Hampton Inn. I was 32 years and a few weeks old at the 89 Nats....lol. Sold my Superbird to build a house and was too broke to fix my 70 Challenger A66 car. Dang, how time has flown!! shocked

That was the first year I went. 16 years old. My dad and I drove out in his brand new turbo caravan. I was on the hunt for parts for my first car, a farm rescued 69 Super Bee. Red,scoops 383 4 speed black bench car with no engine. I wanted to clone it into a six pack lift off hood car. So the first thing I bought was a real deal 69 aluminum six pack intake, think I paid $150! Bought a tach dash for my 70 340 swinger for $10! Good times. First fuel car I seen in person. I think Eddie Hill made a couple passes. Guys in the swap meet drunk fighting and screaming, seen a broken shaker hood bubble trying to be sold I think by the guy that was always shirtless in cut off jean shorts and army boots. Larry Sheppard selling out of the back of an old U Haul truck with a max wedge engine on a run stand open pipes lit up every ten minutes or so. At this point in my 16 year life this place was frikkin awesome! Still have the shirt somewhere! I have missed a few but I go every year now. More mellow crowd nowadays.

I was there. In fact, I've been to every Ohio Nats, as I live local and for 14 years worked for the NHRA at National Trail Raceway. I think '89 was the year I sold a 1-owner '69 Charger, white, black top/interior, 318, ac Nice car, really adjacent to perfect.

I remember the Chrysler Parts Depot in Centerline, always did a Mopar show every summer...
It wasn't huge, but it was a nice show with a swap meet. I miss that one.

I believe that was the N.O.M.M that put on that show and still do but now out at the old Packard Proving Grounds.

I'm feeling really nostalgic..lol. laugh2

Anyone else behind me? Let's push for another all Mopar Day at Milan.

Ubly Dragway used to have Mopar's Against the World...all weekend drag racing, I doubt they still do
anymore, since Tom Ledford (former track manager) has been retired for quite awhile now.
The guy running the track now....= 💩 for brains

Went every year from 1993 until 2004. Took Da Bee every year except 2001 - 2004 took a race car those years. 2003 - 2004 took the 9.0 second 73 Cuda chassis car. Track prep was so bad I quit going after those years and decided to race only. Way more fun than setting in a show field all day.
