This 1991 F150 was a purpose built truck, not so much for recovery along open roads but for the use in big city's; with all those parking ramps, and narrow roads. It's quite difficult removing cars from those structures, and that is exactly what this one of kind truck was designed to do. This truck was a prototype and the only one manufactured. It was built to fit almost any small to medium size car or SUV. It won't work on tall pickup trucks or vans ect.

This truck articulates just behind the cab approximately 25°-30° degrees to either the right or the left. Hence the round shape of the bed.

It has an extreme low load angle for
clearance, which also helps with ground effects, and low bumpers on modern cars. As well as total overhead clearance in parking garages.

All functions are controlled with a wireless loadar radio controlled key pad.

This truck is highly maneuverable in tight spots, and easy to align with parked cars in ramps. It has a self centering ramp\ floor to eliminate body damage when loading and unloading. The ride height on tail board is approx 12" in from ground.

This custom built 1991 F150 is truly unique, and is worth a look. If you do this type of work in big city's this truck is made for you. Front wheels in rear are limited slip. Rear wheels are floaters, and cab (front) wheels don't drive.

A really neat idea and executed well except for the 6 cylinder and that the truck is based on a 1/2 ton (at least the front suspension). Be nice to have a crew cab too but they were after something to work in tight spaces.

Pretty much useless.

They tout how great this thing is for parking structures, but with that much overhang, I can see issues getting in/out if a ramp was involved. And why the 1/2 ton front with a 6 cyl? That whole contraption has gotta add quite a bit of weight then you're gonna add a car's weight to it? I think a better option would have been to use one of these (regardless of make). You're gonna be replacing everything behind the cab anyway.

Interesting: helps the turning radius, and maybe backing into tight-ish spaces - though he doesn't show that - but it does seem heavy and a bit complex.

It would be a good truck for a low car for sure.
If a guy was ambitious enough....Swap cab for some old like a REO,, 50s about anything and haul a showcar etc..
Would draw more attention than the showcar,..

The 300 Ford six is no slouch. I would guess those who are criticizing them probably haven't actually driven one.

I drove one for years, it's a great engine, but it's no powerhouse.

I drove one. Did it's job. Fast no, but did what it was supossed to do.

Stupid Ford seven-lug wheels up front. That alone makes this truck totally useless to me.

I think those are just wheel covers. IIRC, The 7 lug wheels only came on the Expedition and the light-duty F250 on the 97-up body style. I don't think the 7 lug wheels were even used for that entire model run, just the first few years.

Looks like a,ton of wear on the strearing wheel for low miles.

I believe you are correct, but I still stand by the first part of my comment...stupid Ford seven-lug wheels!

Yes, an incredibly bad idea poorly executed.

I was a service writer at a Ford dealer in '97 when those came out. Customer bought a brand new F250LD, signed the papers, and drove it to the tire store to get white spoke wagon wheels for it. Drove it right back to the service drive and DEMANDED that we switch it over to 8-lugs. We told him even if we wanted to it wouldn't happen, since the parts didn't exist. He went to the showroom and screamed so much they had to call the police to escort him out. They offered to trade him into a Super Duty F250, but he'd have to pay the difference. He tried to sue the dealer (the owner was a lawyer) AND Ford. He ended up paying up front for a lawyer to file the suit, then paying our attorney fees when the case was dismissed, plus he was trespassed from the dealership property.
