I like MPH not KPH, gallons not liters but I prefer metric for bolt head size.

My kid would invite friends over to work on stuff and they constantly were using, losing and breaking my tools. He got his own box and tools recently for work. While he was out for a leg injury I would loan tools out of his box. Now he has to replace half of what he had.

Oh well.

Don't laugh, we are still having issues with this in the US. Someone recently built a missile launcher for our newest ships using standard measurements. The rest of the ship was built to metric. sawzall

As a mechanic that worked on lots of 80s and 90s vehicles, I say so what? It was common to find mixed fasteners on those vehicles.

Many do not know that Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson strongly lobbied the then newly formed US Congress to make law that the new Money and Measurements to be used in the United States would be in groups of ten, or “Base 10” .

$ US dollar would have ten dimes and dime would have ten “cents”

US mile would be 1000 yards, yard would be divided by 1000, etc

( here it is worth mentioning the old Roman “mile” was 1000 human paces - in Latin “mile” means 1000 - and there were 5000 Roman “feet” to their mile. An old Roman mile was about 4860 of today’s USA feet)

Congress made the new money Base 10,
but couldn’t get the votes to create new Base 10 measurements and weights for the USA.

A few years later the French Revolution created the Metric System with
10,000 Kilometers from North Pole to Equator,
and 1 cubic centimeter of pure water equalling 1 newly defined “gram”

Still cuss every time I work on something metric or with torx or with tamper proof torx. Or external torx.
Know how many thousands I've spent on fractional sae tools that I can no longer use?
Or worse yet vehicle with both sae and metric...
I came up on sae and I could look at a fastener across the shop and know which wrench or socket to grab....
And I work on cars and trucks daily for a living.
I just pulled the trans out of my Durango this morning. Everything that attached to that 360 was sae as it SHOULD be . Everything that attached to the body and frame was freaking metric. Even the driveshaft bolts were freaking metric. Id like to meet whoever came up with that idea and hang them by their private parts...

I constantly amaze coworkers with my ability to tell them thread size and pitch by sight.

I'm constantly amazed that they go by brand name and assume whether bolts are standard or metrics.

It is kinda “self torture” to not have thread gauges and thread checkers.
They are well worth the money.

Those are cool, You can also find these (a little more expensive around $30 - $45) on Amazon etc., Used by the big box stores and hardware stores.
