Is the laser further “oxidizing” the red rust into
“black slag” which is magnetite?

there is a shop locally that paid 70k+ for theirs. they quickly figured out its got limited uses and bought sandblasting equipment to do the majority of their work. i cleaned up their work on some wheels that the lasered (before they bought the blaster) it was dirty lead smoke when you touched it your hands were black. they took 5 hrs to laser one solid steel wheel that was 30"x10" ($500) and it still needed to be reblasted for paint. on our old junk with lead paint when its burning off its creating some wonderful lead based smoke awesome toy if you have too much money
