The Saturday WSJ had an article page B5 about a relatively new company “Midea”
and the design changes they had methodically made to their
8000 and 12000 BTU/Hour window mount 115 volt “U-shaped” air conditioners.
These have jumped in sales.

On Amazon the many owner reviews actually do an even better job of laying out the pros and cons, plus have more pictures.

Very quiet 43 dB interior room noise
and variable speed inverter driven compressors for less electrical bills.

Major remaining con: condensate drain features can attract bugs

Worth reading if you are interested in AC design evolution.
