Hint #1 - not Alaska

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

A friend just returned from a southern South America vacation which included a trip to Antarctica, so I'm guessing that's where the pics are from?

Yes. Fournier Bay today. Different place each day for a week. Zodiacs every day. Then back to Argentina and then home.

And you intentionally LIVE where it is crazy hot in the summer. For thirty years I visited my mother in Phoenix every winter and laughed at all the people wearing jackets and sweaters any time it was less than 80°. Went there once in August. Never do that again. I don't like Florida in the summer either but was just there two weeks ago.
It is summer here. it has been 36-37 degrees each day so far which would be a nice February day in Ohio. We dress for wind chill in the Zodiacs and then we're too warm on shore.

yes it is. i live in brookville, pa. and that is "north of coder".
coder is located approximately one mile south of the city limits of brookville, on state route 28. there used to be a gas station, general store, and about a dozen cabins there where people lived. i grew up less than a quarter mile from there, next to my paternal grandparents when my old man built a house on ground my grandpa sold him cheap [like $5.00 or something like that]
above us, there was a small airfield, used for early aircraft, weather information, and mail drop in the very early days.
there were also two railroad tracks there, the "low grade" which followed red bank creek [that meanders to the alleghenny river], and the "high grade" that included the "coder trestle", built in 1909, and was torn down in february and march of 2008.
the "low grade" track bed is now a "rails to trails" development.
couple of pictures.......
