I was looking at a 2000 Sebring today and almost bought it for $2900. The last thing I did was to try to put the top up and it wouldn't go. Anybody have an idea of what could be wrong, could a handy guy like me fix it, how much would the parts be and what it could cost to have it repaired professionally? (I know - a lot of questions!)

Anyway, my idea is to find out how much it would cost to fix and offer to buy the car after knocking that much off the price. The perfect scenario would be the owner taking off the cost of a professional fix when I was able to do it myself for the cost of parts.

Thanks in advance for any help!

The top was up when I first saw the car. Then we put it down so that I could see how it worked. It went down fine. Then, when we tried to put it back up, it would only go up slowly and then stop. We finally got the top back up by having two guys lift it from the sides while a third held the switch in the up position. I did not hear a pump go on, but then again I wasn't listening for it.

Sounds like it needs filling and bleeding. You need to look down along the side of the top at the back with a flashlight and see if you can spot any leaking from the pistons.
