I'm running the parts department at a Volvo dealership and we got this in our order. It's for a 5 cylinder passenger car. Slightly longer than a LA motor crank but smaller throws.

What you see is what I got. I've had to push them to get a damaged claim approved. rolleyes

Volvo is trying to blame their contract carrier but the labels on the box pin this directly on Volvo.

What kind of stupid would do that? Even if you didnt know what that part was thats stupid. Sad thing is, like the old saying goes, common sense isnt common. And even LESS SO now a days.

Also what kind of dumba** shipper (UPS driver, LTL driver, etc) would take that? They should beb fired for accepting that.

No offense but it's not the drivers responsibility to check the packaging or what's in it. Unless of course the box is open or in the condition pictured which I doubt. shruggy

If my UPS guy tried to drop that off I'd tell him f u. If I accepted that I eat it. I've refused shipments already where parts are spilling out. I know these people are "just" employees...... wait, thats the problem. Nevermind. Everyone in that whole supply chain will get their paycheck no mater how poorly they do their job. Not their responsibility, right. Kinda like NFL players.

I'm gonna hand my UPS guy a giant flimsy box with bowling ball, a cinder block and a dead animal (preferebly a skunk) tomorrow and see what he says/does smile

PS I printed that picture to show everyone in the shop. LUCKILY we are a "friends and family" company so everyone is invested. Stupidity like THAT wouldn't fly.

Maybe $20 or less for the materials to secure that crank?

Maybe even $5

A close examination of the damage to the box will show impacts from the rear of the crank 5-6 inches above the floor turned both sideways as well as 180 degrees. Also note the two dents on the side of the box nearest the crank. They are pretty high and look to be created by the counterweights on a fairly steep angle.

That little guy was dancing in there.

maybe you misinterpreted what I was trying to say which was, at PICKUP it's not there responsibility to check the packaging unless the box is not closed at which time yes they should refuse it. Delivery time? up to the customer primarily, unless they are not there, then the driver has to make the call. I've had a few mangled boxes show up when i wasn't at the shop. I took alot of pictures before, during and after opening. In all but one case they were improperly packaged. rolleyes
Ironically enough I ordered 2 leaf springs through Amazon for a customers 52 Chevy truck just before Christmas. One showed up with just a shipping tag on the spring. The second was held up due to being damaged in shipment.
So AMZ sends a replacement. Two springs show up on the same day (I now have 3 total) One with a shipping label on it, another in a box similar to the crank with lot's of holes inn it and ZERO Packing material. In this case the spring was fine but had t go back as I only needed two.
i would not be surprised if someone else winds up with that crank unless the was visible damage to it beer

I think you missed something.
This was shipped by Volvo to my Volvo dealership with the rest of the parts in my stock order.

The rear main seal area has visible damage. It will go back to Volvo to be scrapped.

Just because it goes back to Volvo doesn't mean some moron on the other end won't restock it with no visible damage. they might even restock it with the visible damage shruggy
