There is a difference between Chili and Chili Beans.
It really doesn't matter whether you win or lose… as long as you look good doing it!

Some chili has beans some doesn’t. Just depends on what part of the country you’re from. There was a bunk house seen on Yellowstone about this very subject. It's not chili if it has beans. Yankees might think it is, but they are wrong.

Gotta be a thousand different recipes for "chili" by now, but some folks gotta argue about what's right. Chili is as regional as dialect, as is BBQ (in all its different spellings). I've had chili - and BBQ - made many different ways, but I'll pass on adding cheese. Right. I see chili kinda like gumbo, spaghetti, or any other dish with a whole bunch of stuff going on. It's a dish that has many ingredients that are meant to compliment one another. It's either good or it ain't. I (personally) don't give a rat's a$$ about what's "traditional" or "Texas", etc... It just has to be good.

Real chili should have beans and choice cuts of steak! Yep and sausage and not overly thick and a little on the warm side.

must be winter if we are arguing about food. IMHO there is no official recipe for Chilli. Everyone makes it different. Don't believe me? Go to a Chii Cook-off. Everyone is different. If they were all the same what would be the point of a cook-off? My sister in-law puts potatoes in her chilli. Haven't seen anyone else do that. My preference? For a bowl of chilli it gets the meat, beans and chilli pepper with shredded cheddar cheese on top. The picture in the original post could be several things depending on what spices are mixed in it. Could be meat sauce for spaghetti, Could be Sloppy Joe, put it on a hotdog with melted cheddar cheese and it's a chilli cheese dog (mmm). Chilli Con Carne is literally interpreted Chilli with Meat. Does this imply that Chilli by itself does not have any meat just beans? Lol. My wife who has no idea what I am doing right now just brought me a bowl of Chilli for lunch. Yep, it has meat and beans and shredded cheddar cheese.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.
