For a 440ci W9 small block that revs to around 7800, what size carb? I can tell you, its bigger than 950, but curious what others have run. Time for you to find out Enjoy

I don't think i would run anything smaller than a dominator.

Bigger the better. Have yet to put a bigger carb on any smallblock I have ever had, and not picked up.

We run a carb with a 2.45" throttle plate on the Vette with is a good amount smaller than your engine is. Bigger for all out race stuff is usually the better option. As for how big that depends on the combo and power. If I were "stuck"on a 4150 type carb I would look at the BLP stuff or get Em Garage twin blades. I run a twin blade on the B1

So it might not be too outlandish to try my 1250 Dominator on it....Maybe knock some of the squirterr out of it. Does your intake have a dominator flange?

No, his intake is 4150....I have a 2" and 1" tall 4500 adapters.... When I built my 434 Brett told me that I needed a dominator, but my intake has a 4150 flange. He told me to run the 4150 and not a Dominator on an adapter.

Here's a formula if you care to try the mathmatical way...
The formula for calculating how much CFM (cubic feet per minute) your engine requires is: CFM = Cubic Inches x RPM x Volumetric Efficiency ÷ 3456

The N/A CFM calculator is accurate for a V8* (assuming a single plane manifold) in that it gives the result of the formula. So, of course, that's true whether the manifold is "hood clearance" height, or tunnel ram, since no correction is made for plenum volume. * For 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 cylinder engines the demand is slightly higher.
It also assumes that the 4 bbl. carburetor is designed to operate accurately with a working vacuum of 1.5 Hg" (1 & 2 bbl. are rated at 3.0 Hg"). A carburetor’s CFM rating is only accurate if your individual engine produces the rated vacuum with that carburetor. If not, the carburetor flows a different volume, and is therefore somewhat self-adjusting. An engine will draw more CFM that its rating from a carburetor smaller than the traditional calculations (viz., a 440" V8 with a 500 AFB will not completely “run out of steam”), and less CFM than its rating from a carburetor larger than the traditional calculations (viz., a 1050 Holley on a 300" V8 will flow less than 1050 CFM). If the carburetor's vacuum in service falls below 1.5 Hg. the booster and venturi system timing is disturbed, and the emulsion function (A:F curve with rising RPM) will change, generally becoming leaner.

That intake is made by Brett Miller and only comes as a 4500....
