More like 45 mpg highway. 5.2l per 100km.

5.2l equals 1.37 gallons
100km equals 62.1 miles

62.1/1.37 equals 45.3 mpg

Not bad though. Wonder if it's a slug? And it's not quiet compared to the gas version.

Not really unique as Chrysler has been selling diesel, manual shift mini vans in Europe since as far back in the '90's. Under the name Chrysler Voyager. I can't find the photos I have of one that was parked at a small guest house/hotel.

I remember that VW and Chrysler had a now dissolved partnership on minivans,
with Chrysler supplying minivans to VW-America which sold them here as Routans,
and with some name in Europe.

VW America advertised that their versions had mods that made it more aerodynamic.

With the current price differential of Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel ULSD here in the USA much of the cost per mile saving goes away.

If VW sold a factory installed TDI in a European minivan,
does the USA EPA allow any year of Euro-spec to be imported and registered in the USA?

For sure there are going to be some EPA hurdles mainly because of not having a USA EPA certification for "durability" and regardless of what emission level they are in Europe the still have to certify to US EPA standards or test procedures. Then the next hurdle will be DOT/NHTSA standards which are similar to TUV standards but still not exact and no compliance documentation to prove they meet the USA requirements. Some 25 (+) year old vehicles can be imported but that's still costly and difficult for the most part. Don't know if a military personnel purchase can bend some of the rules or not?

Found my diesel Chrysler Voyager Euro minivan photos from one of my many trips to Austria, this one was from back in 2003. They've been around as diesels for long before that over there. (that's the hotel I mostly stay at, and yes they make a wide selection of schnaps right there in house, yum with a beer chaser beer wink )

He told you what engine he was running, look it up. It's CJAA, not CJ8A btw.

If you watched the video you would see a big ol VW on the engine cover, not a Jeep engine. Not to mention the CJ8 has been out of production since 86 and never had a VW diesel in it.
