So it’s time for my 1970’ Cuda to head off to paint jail and I’m stock for the last half year on what shade of orange I should have squeezed over the body. Seriously, it’s probably more like 10 years I wanted to change the gowd awful Chevy yellow paint my friend painted on it in his gravel driveway on a windy day next to a freshly mowed lawn over a slightly sanded and primed dark green paint. I had the very limited AMD rubber bumpers on it, so I’m sure orange will look great on it, just not sure WHICH orange as it’s more of a hot rod than a resto. Any ideas? Post a pic of you got ‘em’ and paint manufacture and Codes if possible. Mind you, I’m looking for a orange that stands out, but is not red or metallic. Ideas appreciate.

So I take it that you're less than happy with the quality of that yellow paint job ?
I like the '68-early '69 orange that showed up on Road Runners.
Not brownish or reddish or yellowish.
what I'd suggest is to look at color chips at the paint jobber you're buying the paint from.
Take them outside in the sun as well as indoor lighting.

I'm in the same boat sort of. My '69 RR - purchased in '73 - has always been my hot rod. Originally Y2 yellow I'm now having it painted and while orange is definitely my color of choice, I'm not crazy about any of the factory oranges because they only "pop" in sunlight. I'm leaning towards something like this. These are probably House of Color Tri-coat with candy BUT I've found some nice base/clears in the Matrix lineup.

Thanks for the pics. First one is too dark and the second one is to metallic for me. Those cars do look good though. Tor Red always looks red to me, so it’s not my shade either. To be realistic, I’m looking for the color similar to my signature picture. I’m not sure what orange that was as it was 30 years ago and the car is long gone. Any other ideas on color orange?

It is an Allis Chambers tractor orange. Has a unique shade in the sun, but I don't really have a good picture of it in the sun, and its not here anymore.

Ramcharger orange is very nice. Think it was close to ‘CalTrans’ orange on the road service trucks out here.

I liked the burnt orange my 05 Neon had. Pic is after an upgrade to 17" rims, but before I got the strobe stripes on it.

The orange on the new Jeep pickups is nice looking from the few I have seen in traffic. Like most new paints I suspect it would have a minor amount of metallic in it?

I seen a few at the Mopar Alley show. 1969 Dart was done in 2013 Dodge Scat Pack color. The other two look to be factory orange.

I saw a rr in mopar action many years ago that was done in amc big bad orange. It looked good. I’m partial to Omaha orange and also the sunset metallic that was on 4th gen gm f bodies

Vitamin C orange is a great color. I agree with you that hemi orange/tor-red isn’t that great.

omaa orange is the 'cal trans' freeway service truck color used out here. I do like it and the 2011 Toxic Orange just slaps as well.

EV2 and I think its pretty close to the newer PLC Orange.

To me Omaha Orange is just as boring as forestry green trucks/state plow trucks are budget orange. If I ever want something just orange just to be orange it will be that...

But no ones mentioned when non mopar guys come around and then all our junk is Hugger Orange

EK2 Go Mango 1970 shade looks closest to what I’m looking for. Will be getting paint samples next week to see how it looks.
