Why was there two different labels used for the inflator bottle-----Cannister and decal. Which is correct for a 70 challenger?

To my knowlwdge, the only thing on the inflator bottle is the cardboard imprinted label that surrounds the cannister.I have not seen an alternate version.

This is the label for 70-71 that goes on the cardboard sleeve that surrounds the bottle

Okay.....I guess thats why I use this site for answering my silly questions...--When I went to ECS automotive concepts... they sell the cannister sleeve with decal and just the decal. In hindsight.... according to what you say ...all came with the cannister sleeve and the decal goes on it.----------Thanks for helping this old fart.

Roadrunner I bet there were twenty other people sitting back hoping someone would answer your silly question. Now they also have the answers to what they did not ask or know.I knew mccannix had a picture of the decal.I had bought the Decal from mccannix at the Mopar Nationals.

along the same subject.
70-71 E-bodies the bottle was a short stubby aluminum version. And I know the tall red inflator bottle was over the counter replacement - but was it ever factory installed in cars after 1971 as I'm pretty sure 15" tires were still an option up until 1974

Hemicar .. you have a good memory as that was 10 years ago.

B.F. Goodrich 14" Spacesavers were only offered in E-bodies in 1970 and 1971.
15" tires were optional on B-bodies but not optional on E-bodies after 1971.
E-bodies in 72, 73 and 74 carried a full size 14" Goodyear spare in the trunk, no optional spacesaver.

Have you seen the D70-14 space saver spares? If so, what cars used them?

I have seen D-70-14 spacesavers occasionally.
I believe they were for use in Ford/Mercury products.. Comet, Maverick, etc.
I have never seen evidence in print to say Mopar ever used them.
There is this early statement regarding 7.75-14 that later changed to F-78-14 replacing 7.75-14.

These markings are stamped on the inside of the rim from a D70-14 spacesaver spare. Notice the Pentastar.

hmmm....definately not a Ford rim
Are the date codes and 5.5 beside the valve stem like this and all other 5.5 factory spacesaver rims.
Any chance someone at some time removed and replaced the tire

The page that Terry posted states: "The tire is 7.75 x 14 regardless of what size tire is on the car". Does this apply to both 70 and 71 cars. For both 14" and 15" wheel cars? What about the 7.35 x 14/E78 x 14 tire?

That page (book) was printed early in the 1970 model year. The F78-14 replaced the 7.75-14 during the model year, but I do not recall a date for the change-over.

Stampings near valve stem are like the ones you show except for the date code.
Sept 17, 1969

The tire did not look like it had been replaced. It is a B.F. Goodrich D70-14 Space Saver Spare.

I heard the change over took place early in the 1970 model year(7.75 x 14 tire to F78 x 14 tire), Oct 69? I was questioning if the (7.35 x 14 tire- E78 x 14 tire) was used for 14" rim cars or at least intended for them? Sounds like from that early publication the 7.75 x 14 tire was for both 14" and 15" rims!

The space saver was used on some 14" & all 15" tire cars if that is what you are after?

For 1971 Challenger, read this page;

It looks like they forgot to update it.

Here is the DOT code on the D70-14 SS Spare.

BAK9 CU1 463

BAK9 = Manufacturer and Plant
CU1 = Compact Spare
463 = 46th week of 1973

I thought they stopped using Space Savers before the 74 model year. If so, it looks like someone replaced the tire.
Does anyone have a picture that shows the markings in a known F78-14 Space Saver? It would be interesting to see if there is a letter "D" stamped in the wheel like the one I have posted above.

It is a special cap. It has a little built-in slot at the top that allows you to remove the shrader valve (and deflate the tire after use). Moparts member Jules the Wiper Man has them I think. They're on eBay all the time but they always want too much for them in my opinion ($10 or so for a little piece of plastic that is available new somewhere). No idea on why they're white, maybe to make them stand out as different.
