My wife is Irish and this afternoon we headed over to the local VFW and man that was some of the best corned beef and cabbage we've had in a long, long, time. We ordered and within 15 minutes they were sold out. It was so good we were going to order two more dinners to go and a Reuben for our son and then overheard the waitresses explain to others that they are sold out. Oh and they had Guinness cold and ON TAP and advertised it was the real deal from Ireland Guinness which I didn't know there was a difference? Wife and I had more than one grin grin There was a musician singing and playing an acoustic guitar and my wife keep pointing out that during his breaks he was slamming down beers and eventually he was slurring the words to every song, too funny. laugh2 It was a Happy St. Patrick's Day for us, good food, good beer, good time. Hope some of you also had a good time on St. Paddy's Day like my wife and I and rdrnr6970 beer beer

Mike

We went down to a small bakery/cafe in my one horse town yesterday and had bangers and mash with soda bread. I guess I'm an honorary Irishman now!

As someone who couldn't give a flyin' f*** about St. Patty's day it has suddenly occurred to me why there were bins of brisket in the grocery store last weekend!

I mean seriously, driving the snakes out of Ireland is child's play when compared to say, building a boat and jamming two of every species and enough feed into it for longer than I care to imagine. Yet nobody made Noah a Saint and gets sh!tfaced celebrating his accomplishment. Hell if it weren't for Noah the Irish wouldn't be eating brisket on St patty's day !!

Why isn’t Noah a saint?
Answer:
Formal canonization is a process that developed hundreds of years after the founding of the Church. Before that, righteous people were “recognized” or “acclaimed” by the Christian communities to be saints. That is why Old and New Testament saints (including the Blessed Virgin Mary) were never formally canonized. Noah is one of the righteous people of the Old Testament who are generally considered to be in heaven. Indeed, in the “hall of fame” chapter of Hebrews, which records the righteous deeds of Old Testament saints, Noah is included in the roster:

By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, took heed and constructed an ark for the saving of his household; by this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness which comes by faith (Heb. 11:7).

I'm not going to drink to that..........but I will kiss you if you're Irish grin wink

We'll have a corn beef roast with roasted cabbage, red potatoes with butter and parsley, and soda bread. Maybe a shot of Powers Gold whiskey. Usually will watch a movie too. Favorite is the Commitments, but this year we mixed it up with The Guard. It was okay, food was great.

I just know what I read.

Are Bangers and mash Irish?

"While Bangers and Mash is traditional English pub food served with fried onions or onion gravy (or for Americans, sausages and mashed potatoes), bangers and colcannon is classic Irish pub food of sausages and mashed potatoes with cabbage. Or kale."

Bangers and Mash
