Some of the comments in that thread are appalling. Guy in the Vette did something stupid and it cost him his life. I'm glad he didn't take anyone with him. But these [censored] ghouls who wished him dead, are glad he's dead, etc...horrible people.

Just proves how fragile we as human beings are. It's amazing any of us make it past about 25. I'll bet the driver of the 'Vette never guessed he wasn't coming home that night.

But these [censored] ghouls who wished him dead, are glad he's dead, etc...horrible people. Well, he seriously injured someone else with his antics. There was also a child, uninjured, in the truck. Both could very well have died because of his stupidity. Am I glad he's dead? Nope. Am I glad he can no longer put other's in danger with his stupidity? Yep. Some errors are self correcting and I am not going to lose sleep over this one.

A blink of an eye, man. I've witnessed 2 fatal crashes (2 guys on Harleys killed by a car, and 2 people cut in half by a guardrail that penetrated the passenger front door of a car). I wish I'd have never seen them. Horrific. I've also seen the aftermath of probably 200 fatal crashes over the years, due to my job. Valuable lessons to be learned for sure. I get not having sympathy for people who bring it upon themselves via stupidity, but there's a big difference between not having sympathy, and finding joy/satisfaction in it. I have zero sympathy for people who ask for it, and get it. But I'm also not wishing it on anyone, or tap dancing on anyone's grave.

Wow the wreck and the comments on that page are sobering. I feel for him and his family. Was it a bone head move, meh probably but I can guarantee you every single person on this site has nailed the throttle on a straight road and expected the car to go straight. Ours did, his didn't. If everyone were to pay the ultimate price for doing exactly what he did we would all be dead. I would have less compassion for the guy if he had been acting a fool or outrunning the cops. He was going with the flow of traffic and hit the gas, maybe to show off and maybe that electronic crap that controls the car went wonky, we don't know. To wish someone, or be glad someone is dead for a mistake we have ALL done is pretty sad in itself. He was 36, at that age I had 2 kids in High School and a wife at my side. My mom, dad and siblings were all alive. There is a strong possibility at his age he was in a similar same boat. Tonight all those people who loved him won't see him again. Just because he did what every car guy has done plenty of times. So I do feel bad for him and his family, although I understand those who don't loose sleep over him. That's a justifiable opinion in it's own right. Not those who were happy about it though. Then again he could have been a douche and the world's a better place. So I choose not to judge but prefer to think him a good person.

Probably the only fortunate thing in this is that he slid into a full sized truck rather than a smaller vehicle. The outcome in that case may well have been even worse.
Man, that 'Vette just disintegrated.

WAY TOO MUCH traffic to be doing stuff like that ! This right here. Yes, I've nailed the throttle on a road, who hasn't. But not in traffic like that, unless I was on a bike trying to avoid some clown in a 4 wheeler trying to kill me.

Man, that 'Vette just disintegrated. Absolutely. Had he hit another car instead of a truck, I'd be very surprised if there weren't other fatalities.

Yes very fast. If it wasn't for the sound of his engine spinning up, I wouldn't have even known what happened. The guy was just calmly riding alone with traffic and then suddenly the car went HARD left. Almost like a broken left axle or something.

I didn't see what year the Z06 was but it was new enough that for it to do that he would have had to have turned off some safety features. Most any traction control setting would probably have caught that.

I think its the rear gear that contributes to some of these things with the vettes and mustangs. Both seem to be able to quickly change direction under power and end up crashed. Here is a link to many vette issues and the same can be found for the stangs. Dont see a lot of mopars doing the same for some reason. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sL1vBYdya7k

They decide to show off, turn the traction control off and end up losing it under hard acceleration. The problem is they just don’t know how to handle that much power. Yes MOPARs have the same problem with an inexperienced driver behind the wheel. A limited slip differential with both rear wheels spinning on street tires on the street will send you drifting every time under full throttle. My 512 powered 69 Super Bee and my Gen lll Hemi powered 55 Dodge pickup do same thing.

The insurance companies in the early 70s didn't just decide to 'attack' muscle cars out of thin air. All of us have stories similar to these.

Most of the guys in that link were hammering stuff coming out of corners....that'll get ya loose every time! I know the OP Vette was on the straight......he just hit it too hard and got out performed.

"All of us have stories similar to these." HOO BOY do i ever........... not once or twice or three times, way more than that............but ALWAYS when i was the only traffic to contend with. i have said from the beginning of the "new" muscle, if it was way back then, i would more than likely not be here. to do stupid "stuff" when the lanes are full is just pure idiocy.......

Good point! We street raced very often way back when. BUT, we always went way out of town and usually of an evening. We were concerned both for the cops and for casual traffic. We sure as heck didn't rip 'em full throttle around town. That brought too much attention.

That is one weird wreck. The fact that he took off hard while in the middle of traffic is weird, the fact that the car took a hard left is weird and the fact that the car exploded on impact is weird. I've seen a bunch of wrecks over the years but I've never seen an explosion like that. I've seen hard wrecks at the race track but the cars just bounce and scrape. Indy cars will explode on impact but I've never seen a street car do it. Almost looks like that car had been taken apart and put back together with aluminum rivets or something. Like a stunt car for a movie. Wonder what in the heck the driver of the Vette was thinking about when he pulled that stunt? Granted this was a long time ago, but my grandfather witnessed a wreck where a Corvette launched off of a road down a hill. It landed on all fours and the body exploded on impact. He described it as a fiberglass jigsaw puzzle.

A bad decision at the wrong time and place unfortunately cost him his life. Thankfully no one else was killed by his bad decision. It amazes me what I see in everyday life with you tube being around.

Maybe we are all jumping to conclusions.
It might be such a thing the Vette driver had a medical issue, like a sudden fatal heart attack (its been happening a lot lately). He may have been dead before the car accelerated and changed lanes. If his body was as messed up as most of us would expect after a crash like that, they may never be able to tell, even if they looked past the obvious and into the real reason he died. An uptick in Myocarditis perhaps?

The driver was 36 years old so a medical issue is rather unlikely. An Autopsy would have been performed because it was a violent death and the authorities would want to know if alcohol, drugs, or medical issues played a role. And today's MEs are very good at what they do, even under difficult circumstances.

The way he mashed the go pedal, I doubt he would accomplish what he did if it were a heart attack or stroke. Either way he has unfortunately become a stat.

It’s hard to tell from the video, but I think it is a C7 Z06. My buddy has one. It has 650hp/650 ft lbs. He took me for a ride and it is insanely fast. He didn’t turn off the traction control and it still burns the tires and tries to go sideways from a 40 mph roll like you wouldn’t believe. If the guy in that video turned off the traction control completely, that could be the cause. Even Randy Pobst said he didn’t like driving those cars with all of the nannies turned off.
'67 is an abbreviation of 1967 67' is an abbreviation of 67 feet They are not interchangeable.

I refuse to even watch the video....................... All it shows it the car shooting across 3 lanes of traffic, jumping a center median, and exploding on impact with the truck, taken from a dash cam on a vehicle going the same direction he was going originally.
