It's going to be expensive based on it's size, UPS Truck Freight would run you about $300 +/- $50 IMHO, I ship my repro fiberglass E body GC/SE headliners around the country/overseas in wood containers apprx the same size 60X60X6.... I wouldn't waste my time/money with FedEx or Fastenal....

The glass six-pack hood for my Dart came truck freight from AAR Fiberglass. $645 for the hood... and $200 for the freight! rolleyes

Before that, I bought a steel one to fit my '65 F-350 in a crate, shipped by Forward Air. If you're near a major airport where they ship, it might be a good deal. (They go airport to airport...)

I've used Forward Air as well when applicable/feasible, zero issues, pretty much comparable to UPS Truck Freight charges IMHO for large sized freight

Then add oversized freight charge $60-$80, fuel usage charge, along with a host of other destination fees/taxes/insurance/etc..... you'll be $200+, residential delivery adds another $50 to $100 depending on route, and if liftgate is added, then additional charges...... you can do terminal to terminal delivery if you want to avoid residential fees, but Arizona to Ohio is an easy $200+.....

RL Carriers is your "cheapest" out of those 3 and more "reliable", JB Hunt and FedEx leave a lot to be desired as far as cost and proper handling......DAMHIK

One thing that most Truck Freight carriers (except UPS/Fedex/DHL with them, declared value is just that) won't tell you regarding Insurance is that "used parts/components/etc" are not truly covered in full by the declared value if damage/loss occurs, only "new parts/components/etc" are covered at full declared value, declared value is what the receiver paid for the merchandise from you, (freight charges cannot be added to the declared value) they'll take your $$$ for Insurance, but a claim will be adjusted if "used items" that are shipped become lost/damage, one of the reasons I use UPS Truck Freight or worst case FedEx is no hassle on a claim, as long as the declared value is what I and or the receiver can produce ....

niteCLONA ... some very interesting and valid observations up

But how many PLASTIC PARTS have you shipped ? And how many RATING NUMBERS have you used ?

In a situation like this .... PAY for the shipping UP FRONT so they can’t UP AND EXTRA you !

Call a few of them on Monday......

ALSO .... call an airline.... the air freight terminal... just as a comparison.....

How well is the hood crated ? Are the corners WELL PROTECTED?

I remember years ago someone shipped glass hoods by Greyhound bus. Do they still do that?

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

I just checked the weather reports for Westchester, oh and Mesa, Az. No brainer. Take some time off and drive to AZ for a couple of weeks and bring the hood home with you.

I ship quite a lot yearly, repro Aero fiberglass and repro Aero steel body panels, nosecones, wings, E body GC/SE headliners, B body rear window louvers, etc coast to coast in the US, Canada, and overseas to Europe, SE Asia, England, Australia, Japan, etc.....I always pay freight up front, and I'm always looking for discounted freight carriers/exporters that I can rely on.... about the only carrier to "UP AND EXTRA YOU" after it's shipped/quoted/payed (the shipping party) prepaid or not, is FedEx with Canadian/Overseas fees....

niteCLONA ..... there are A LOT of ups and extras operations !

Worst case I ever had was dealing with P I E .... i will never forget this. Shipped a one piece frontend to Seattle. Customer wanted PIE and had checked the rate - BASED on the industries rating system. He was quoted 225 IIRC. It came to him for a COD of 1400 !

Ooooooops ... most important.... it HAS TO BE DECLARED as TOP FREIGHT!

Told to me by several truck freight reps ... ITS GRAVY shipping!

But it HAS TO BE packaged well tsk

I shipped an original '70 Shaker hood from Mpls to New York through Old Dominion and all went smooth. I dropped it off at Dominion's local truck terminal and they delivered it right to his door.

I crated it in wood and expanding spray foam for a secure and solid enclosure. The buyer arranged the shipping and paid for all of the insurance and fee's. He also paid me for my time and material for the crate.

Try to ship it class 100. The class you list it at greatly effects the freight cost. If you don't list a class, they will probably put it at class 250 & that is a LOT more expensive! Here's pics of a Cuda shaker hood I shipped to a guy in CA. back in 2004. I even built a mini crate for the shaker scoop. He received everything in good condition.

I like the crating plan. ......But I would put it out for bid on Uship. I've had great luck shipping awkward items from lawn equipment to dirt bikes to parts Take a picture of the crate with the dimensions for the posting so they know what they are dealing with.. Lot's of small independent carriers check there and will put your item on their load if heading your direction. I had an item shipped where the guy was retired and used his motor home for this type stuff. Said it paid for his diesel in-between destinations.

Regular fiberglass panels were rated one way....

But add a simple steel T NUT and it gets a muchO lower rate !
