Doc I have 3 kids in college. So my days are working to pay bills. My kids are somehow smart. My son spent his HS senior year attending classes in college. No charge to me = nice. Now he is excelling. My youngest daughter is now doing the same as her brother for her senior year. Taking all classes at college. Unfortunately she wants to go out of state for college. Very good for her but very hard for me as her father. My oldest daughter just finished out her last year with 4.0. Business major which is also what I have. Yes we get older. Hell I have to say years ago Doc you really f'ing annoyed me on this board. Now I realize I would love to hear the stories you have. Silver Bullet especially. We all only live once and I hold no grudge to anyone

I'm 43. I still feel pretty young, and am living a good life as far as I can tell.

The only age-related health issues I seem to have experienced are:
1. Lower back issues sometimes
2. Muscles do not recover as fast after lifting weights
3. Graying hair

Ummm...no. I am 48. I do not feel that old until I look in the mirror. The grey zz top bearded gent staring back at me is not how I actually feel. I know doc you have stories to tell without the antics. I know there are alot of people here that would like to hear them.

For the most part, I feel better now than I did in my 20's, but every now and then something comes along to remind me of my actual age. Most people who first meet me guess I'm in my 30's, so I'm not complaining.

I'll be 60 in a couple months. Happily married for 35 of those years with 2 girls...29 year old that is a PA and a 31 year old that is an architect.We are empty nesters, both work and live pretty comfortable. Pretty healthy except for my back issues.....looking at a second surgery in the near future. Wouldn't wish back issues on my worst enemy!!

Me? I feel great. 35 years of construction and I'm still in good shape. I have my hair too.

The old saying "The spirits willing but the body ain't able" comes to mind. At 66 I have definitely slowed down. And as of my last physical, I'm shrinking also. 6' 1"-250 at 25 when I got married in '80 to 5'11"-270ish now. Just doing light maintenance work on the cars has gotten to be a real chore the last few years. I even have to stop and rest while cutting the grass.
Whoever said growing old is not for the faint of heart was right on the money.
Oh, and like Frankenduster, I still have all my hair with just a little gray in my sideburns.

Still running hard every day till I cant go no more. 5-6 hours sleep still does it.... well it seems its all I can do.

Kinda gimped up but I know its all down hill. Never heard of a sixty year old that wakes and hes twenty five again.

Same here, used to be 5'-10 1/2" and 225 at about 45, now I'm 5'-9" and 270 at 69. I've found I can still give it hell for about 4-5 hours, then I'm done for the day.

I have found that naps are highly underrated!

Well I'm 59 and can still work circles around any of the 20-30 year old techs in our shop. Granted they don't want to work hard and a 40 hour check is OK with them. The younger guys have very little upper body strength. I can still crank out 60-70 flat rate hours in a week and that can only happen if you hustle on each job.
I like to work hard but when I get home I crash into my recliner and take an hour nap and wake up for dinner watch TV and in bed by 11 o'clock.

I'm 63 going on 20. I still feel pretty good most of the time, but I've noticed a drop in energy level. I need me a young girlfriend - like in her early 40's!

I'll be 65 in 2 weeks. I retired @ 62, something I would advise everyone to do if they can. my wife retired the year before I did (she is 2 years older then I am). We rather enjoy spending time together, (married 45 years last May) and we enjoy cruising in our cars. There is a lot of the USA to see, and I intend to drive through the lower 48, we have most of the mid section and most of the south eastern section covered already, but the north east and the north west we have yet to make it to.
Health is still pretty good, but my younger years of body abuse is catching up with me. In HS as a Junior, I was 6' 1" tall and wrestled in the 155lbs weight class (yea, I was a skinny bean pole). I've added about 2 1/4lbs a year since then (a lot of it was just out of HS). I've lost about 10 over the last year, but still need to loose some more, I can tell the extra weight is not good. I do a physical every year because I need prescription medicine, but always the tests come back with everything in the middle of the recommendation numbers.
I can only sleep 5-6 hours at a time (since my mid 20s), but lately, that hour nap mid afternoon is pretty nice. Though retired, I still manage to do 5-6 hours of fairly physical work a day (except most weekends) but then I'm done for the day. At this point, life is very good. Gene

Now that is funny. Saw a blog where some gal went to Florida to hook up with some guy called the Doc. When she got there this 30 some year old guy looked like a Radial tire from 1975 with 100,000 miles on it.

The day I wrote that, I had gone to a chiropractor. My first time there, nothing major. After formalities, he started in with a spiel of things I need to do while I'm in my 30's so I can still be good by the time I retire...... coulda heard a pin drop when I politely stopped him and told him I was 54............

Grateful I don't look like a radial tire from '75.........

69 last month. Retired 3 years ago after 2nd back surgery failed to.correct pain.

Apparently I bought 2 hoods from Doc before he was born.

Tad over 40 and slowing down, I just don't understand that one. I'm 60 and can still out work people half my age. Still go to the gym 5-6 days a week. Same as I did when I was working 72 hrs work weeks(which was only a yr ago). You have to invest in yourself to enjoy getting older.

50 in a few weeks. Feel great. In great shape. Eat well, lots of exercise...cardio, strength, endurance, boxing. Other than a few age-related aches and pains (chronic tendonitis in my shoulder, arthritis in my left knee and left big toe), no issues at all. I hang with the most of the 20-somethings and 30-somethings in my workout classes. Not all of them, but a good number of them.

Thank you all for your feedback!! It makes me feel younger I am 48 but I do not feel it when I look in the mirror. I also thank Doc for asking the question. True I am also one that gave him grief on other posts. Yes I deserved the Sgt Schultz responses. I do know something and that is share knowledge with kids. The stories I have and experienced with my kids are priceless. We as 'geezers' should always be open to questions. If we don't share the 'glory' dies. Don't cost nothin. Open up and see cars are cars.

the biggest thing with getting older is the health issues that go with it.
i need both hips and both knees replaced, and i'm trying to figure the best time to get this done. and to complicate things, i have MS.
i look at it this way. no matter how bad i got it, someone out there has it worse than me.

Well, that's what I get for patting myself on the back. Rolled my ankle near the end of my strength and conditioning class last night. Xrays negative, but I'm in a brace, my ankle and foot are black and blue, and I can't work out for at least 3-4 days because of the swelling. Doc said it should be 100% in 3-4 weeks.

I did the same many years ago. Doctor said it would of been better if I broke it. Took a long time to somewhat heal and I will bet about a year before I had complete use of it.

I caught myself and didn't fall, which the doc said probably saved it from being much worse. Had I fallen to my left, I would've rolled it over completely.

I consider myself fortunate. I've been skinny my whole life, so I haven't had to deal with weight-related problems and can do pretty much whatever I want. I had an adventure with leukemia a few years ago but it's largely in the rear-view, and even with that I think most 62-year-olds would trade their health for mine.

I was still in high school when I first signed up for Moparts way back when. Now, I'm edging close to 40, and if my body had the same warning setup as a modern car, it'd look a lot like Christmas every morning when I haul my backside out of bed. Back, left knee, the right foot that was shattered back in 2011, and those are just the major parts.

not-a-charger I hear you. My ankles are garbage since I sprained them may times playing football. In college they were taped before every game or practice and I wore lace up ankle braces. I once had a doctor hold my leg and move my foot an inch in and out. Gross. Now I am thankful I never hurt my knees or hips. I played left offensive tackle so I had to move quickly. Getting older sucks but I thank God everyday when I wake up and can get out of bed. I may not feel the best but I know it's better to be on the sunny side of life rather than a tomb

I turned 40 in August.

If I'm being honest, I've slowed down a lot. Certainly can't do what I used to when I was 18. I probably couldn't even keep up with my 30-year-old self.

Being about 315lbs complicates matters somewhat.

Heart disease, alcoholism & diabetes runs in the family. Mums' oldest brothers' heart blew up when he was 43. Her next brother (literally) dropped dead mid-sentence at 63.
My knees aren't shot but they don't like to move as much as they used to. Back gets quite sore doing even basic things and I get winded quite easily.
Oh, I have some sort of Kidney disease too.... nefritis? I don't remember (nor do I care) anymore.

I'm fat.
I'm ugly.
I'm unemployed.
If I dropped dead tomorrow, nobody would even notice.

Other than that, I'm perfectly all right!

At least the sense of humor still works.

After reading some of the post on this thread all I can say is it must suck to be some of you guys. I will be 77 years old on 30 Sep 2020 and I still average 5 to 6 hours a day in my shop working street rods. I quit drag racing three years ago only because my local track closed.

After 47 years of abusing my body as a flat rate tech I'm done with that. The pace of life around here has forced me to slow down anyway. Even small jobs have to be planned well in advance and all necessary supplies procured well in advance or it will turn into an all day job at a minimum. Hell just going to the grocery store is an all day event. But I'm not complaining, I love living here.
