. Interesting to note that GYC has never has a car in OE judging. That usually quiets down the "Take it to GYC" crowd. Usually.

Phantom Works... there's a reason its not on anymore except in repeats... I happen to know that the production company ended up paying someone else to redo a car they did after the customer wasn't pleased with the outcome. The car was redone here in N.J. .... I get a kick out of seeing Tony from Tonys Parts on GYC I remember him when he lived in Orange County N.Y. and raced a blue GTX at my local track before moving to Delaware, the GTX is still around but I haven't seen the acquaintance that owns it since buying from parts from him a few years ago. I like seeing the oddball / rare cars that Chasing Classic cars come up with and redo. I just saw a new show last night... Rust Valley Resto saw a few Mopars and the guys are real characters.

Thanks for the kind words. the car i raced was a 69 road runner, B5 with a Black Vinyl top. i traded it to Mickey Murray who lives in rockland county new york in the early 90s, i believe he still has it. i owned it for about 13 years. some pics attached

I liked fantomworks but man a lot of people have deep pockets. SOme of the prices seemed ok for the amount of work the cars needed but I guess if they focused on the lower priced jobs it wouldn't be much of a show.
I also like Restoration Garage, there's usually some interesting project going on and shows people actually working without the stupidity factor of some other shows. I watched some of the Fantomworks. In my opinion, the guy was a hack. Some of the work he did was beyond questionable. In the end, when they tallied up the bills for the customers, most of the time I would have walked away and left the car. Prices were nuts for sub-par work.

Dad would DVR it so I could see it when visiting. I liked it because they did more than muscle cars, unique cars today that were common then. I seem to recall a '65 GTO collision repair that ran to $66,000? Adding factory air conditioning to a '55 Cadillac? They didn't show 5% of the frustrations with that project. They kept the contrived drama and BS to a minimum, liked that as well.

I still say that these are TV shows and it's super easy to sit back and judge not being the one going through the process, long hours, stress, and all that goes with it. Also, what is supposedly the final product we see is quite likely not really what the customer's final product. They have to wrap up an episode and very well may continue work on the car.
P.S. Very cool old school pics Tony. THOSE were the days!

It's still on? I stopped watching after he had AMD rebody their flagship car for them. I do find it funny that one of the "best Mopar restoration shops in the world" has a shop that is actually one of the best Mopar restoration shops in the world do their dashes for them. As for the salt of the earth type, I guess I am one of the few that remembers him data-mining here, one of the members actually giving him his process on how to restore something, and then him passing the process off as his own on the show. Yep. What a class act. I saw that too on the dashes. The blonde producer office gal (can T remember her name) emailed or PMed me. Few times with questions. If they could film.Mark less show would be BETTER

Hey Tony! I Couldn't remember if it was a Road Runner or GTX .. I bought some parts from Mickey a few years ago and he still had it then but I haven't seen him or the car at the track for awhile now.

I saw that too on the dashes. The blonde producer office gal (can T remember her name) emailed or PMed me. Few times with questions. If they could film.Mark less show would be BETTER as far as the blonde girl, there used to be a character on the show named Holly, besides her Marks Daughter Allyssa is the only other girl i can recall. As far as them sending out the dashes, on an e-body its just the cluster and switch panels, and the same for some b-bodies, while sometimes on b-bodies it is the whole assembly depending on what kind of time frame theyre working with i dont know of another shop that restores their own gauges (except of course Mike Mancini's American Musclecar restorations that uses their inhouse partner company instrument specialties). its quite a process the instruments have to go through (silkscreening, plating, calibration, etc) and unless the shops are just cleaning and putting new decals on the face or installing new reproduction gauges (neither of which is a good thing) i dont know of any resto shops going through the whole proper gauge restoration process themselves as far as none of their cars being OE judged, thats not as much a reflection of their work as much as it is a product of the customer not supplying assembly line type parts and not wanting that end result. and lastly, i can say this. Graveyard Carz restoration charges are about 1/2 of most shops and their prices include parts too! so there are no open ended never ending price escalating to infinity like i hear about so frequently from customers who have gone through horror restorations. i know they have a long wait list and restoration time, but Mark doesnt hide that from customers either.

Okay, I'll put you on the spot. What do you think the total will be for your wife's car that Worman is working on?

One question I have on GYC, what is the deal on the dozens of cars sitting outside? Are those all customers cars awaiting their turn getting restored at the shop? And if I was sending them my project, would I feel good about it sitting outside in the elements deteriorating for several years before he finds time for it? I wouldn’t be thrilled, with having my rare Mopar sitting out there in the parking lot, for years. Whatever good parts that are left in the interior will be toast. Ideally, they should be parked in a warehouse.
