I just picked up some new Cooper Cobra GT Radials and wondering if I should put the white lettering in or out? What is your preference? Here is a pic of my old BFG white out. I'm thinking black out.

IMO, it depends on the car. That car I would say white out.

I'm usually a white in guy but I agree the white letters do look good on that car especially with those wheels. Unless they turn brown then in they go.

I was just looking at your pic again. I had forgotten that the fender was almost as long as the quarter on those.

White out. They are a great looking tire, I just bought four myself. And something I didn’t know, the black side looks totally different, complete with a cartoon cobra. Lol

I'm gonna differ and p*#$ y'all off : I prefer black out, as I think it's a cleaner look in total.

Take 2 photos of it, and black the letters out on one, compare and decide what YOU like.

I usually go with white letters in, but on the car the white letters look great.

I'm a white letter out on 1970 and up and in on 1969 and down guy...

Old school, out. Otherwise, on someone else's car. White letters in looks awful. Yes, we see them.

Not gonna piss me off...I agree 100%!!!! Black out looks MUCH cleaner and a TON easier to maintain!!!

As I responded at the Charger forum, the car looks great either way.

I feel white letters are more a sportier look. Black walls more stock look. Which do you prefer?

I think it's your car, do what you like, that's the only opinion that matters.

As for me, if I have tires with white letters they go out, going in make you look like a dork. If I want black sidewalls, then I buy tires without white letters.

Thanks everyone. I kind of like it white out. I guess I’m used to white out for the last 36 years on it.

When you look at the charger theres a bumble bee stripe,R/T scoop and part of the hood stripe is showing so the white letter tires might make everything look like theres alot going on,but the charger looks great with the white letters out.

I am a white out kinda guy . . . . and of course make sure the rear drums are painted red . . .

To me, nothing ruins the look of any car like white letters showing. If you like white showing, why go half way?

I Beez Sportin 15x8 rally with 275/60/15 BFG Drag Radials in Da Rear and 15x7 up front wrapped with Comp T/A all are black walls.
But I say white letters on his car.

I have not had that issue with the Coopers . . .only the BFG . . .

Never could understand the need to advertise what brand tires you bought .. I actually sand the raised black letters off my tires ..

For me, what the white lettering on the tires say would determine if I wanted people to see them or not.

Many of the current tire brands just wouldn't look right on the old classic cars.

I'm also a cheapskate, The last set of tires I bought (about a month ago), the white letters added $10 to the price for each tire. I don't feel the need to pay the tire manufacturer $40 to advertise for them. No white lettering for me! Gene

I think it's "advertising" that they are a HP tire and not really the particular brand although some are more respected for their performance lineage.

I am a white letters IN guy, just personally never liked the looks of the white letters.

I am a letters"in" guy also. I just had two Cooper Cobras put on the back of my Duster last week...blackwall's with ralley's baby! The Charger OP should do what suits him though.

My preference is generally white letters in, and would be on your car too.

To me it's not so much they say unless they're a crap brand of tire but that they usually look better then plain black walls like every other car has.

I can go either way depending on wheels both look good. The factory wheels for sure white out but no choice the MT's are blackwalls only.

THey'd probably look good with it out too. It's just as much or more the car then the wheel.

Call me a poser. I think it depends on the brand name. Public perception is a thing.

I'll run all sorts of brands , but the only ones I'd run letters out are Goodyear, Goodrich and Cooper.

Unless you have a vintage set of white letter tires, (Sears, Montgomery Ward, Ansen or some such defunct brand) just don't.

i saw a set of old formula 1 super stock tires on a 73 dart a few days ago at my buddy's place. that car has set in a storage container for the last 34 years, and he and i are going to get it up and running for the guy that owns it.
it has a 340 and 4 speed in it, but it may have been a 318 car.

I would do other brands white side out if they were a Sponcer and treat them like it is 1980 all over again when I ran 35 to 40 bucks Blems and needed new rear tires often.
Once a,set in the afternoon. But had 2 more in the rear seat mounted.
The old guy that sold them to me thought I was a nut since I woukd leave him.rubber driving away with 2 extras ready to swap.
He said I and my buddies were good customers but nuts as we bought 4 rear tires and no fronts.
Roadkill style but with Pam cooking spray on the quaters so it peaked rought off and left a nice rubber undercoat on the wheelwells.

The only time I like the letters out is on some of the desert trucks with race tires.

Everything else, blackwall out. Redlines and wide whites are ok to me, but I have never cared for lettering on car tires.

I like White Letters and Redlines on almost anything.

Blackwalls are blah to me in most cases.

I got the new tires installed. My tire shop first put the black out and did not look good so he installed white out. By the way, 245/60/15 fit good on the front with no rubbing issues on a 15x8 with 4 1/2 backspace.

Anyone bought BFGs lately? Is the browning still an issue?

Letters out, letters in, stock steel wheels, aftermarket aluminum wheels, blonde or brunette, athletic or voluptuous...all personal choices and non of them are wrong and all can look good but none will please everyone.
