Easiest way I have found to run down the problem is take the door panels off one of the sides that is not working and disconnect the window motor two wire connector. Take a test light and touch one of the wires coming from the main harness inside the connector. Have an assistant operate the power window switch for the window you are working at. One wire will light when it supposed to go up, and the other wire will light when it supposed to go down. If that is working as it should, then the window motor is to blame. I had three bad window motors on my Coronet when I bought it. If your handy, you can take the motors apart and clean/lube them up. I fixed two out of the three bad ones that way

The nylon gears are torn up.Replace the motor.Or if you feel adventurous, just replace the top of the motor containing the gears.
It is easier to remove the whole regulator out of the door to do it all.
CAUTION!!! the spring is under extreme pressure !!
When you take it out of the door, put the regulator in a bench vise TIGHT so not to undo the spring and not to lose an eye or an arm. This will make the removal and replacement of the motor easier.
Remove the motor from the regulator and make the necessary repairs.
Any power window from '66 all the way up to '89 RWD car will work.Even motors from C bodies.
If you think the motor is running but the gears are stripped, undo the two long skinny bolts holding the motor together. From a donor p.window motor swap the head.Make sure the head is for the same side window.(thay are interchangeable-been there done that with 3 p.w. cars for 6 years)
I hope this helps,good luck!!
Sincerely,Leaburn

You don't have to take the whole motor apart to get the end off that the gear is in. You can just take the 3 screws out that hold the gear in and change the plastic bearing things.

I never really tried to look for new parts.Used parts were still plentiful,so I used them up.

To clear up any misunderstandings,or maybe I word it incorrectly. I suggested my method 'cause it works. It may be the "longer" way of doing it,but it was easier to handle the power window motor with the whole regulator out of the car, when you unbolt the three bolts holding the motor onto the regulator.I clamp the regulator in my bench vice against the spring so I can re & re the motor with ease--no parts flying off.It is also a good time to grease up all the moving points of the window mechanism/tracks-and door latch.

I tried removing just the motor from the doors before and using vise grips to hold the spring. But some doors have next to no room to work leaving your hands bloodied, and tempers flared.
You can learn something new everyday--including myself.
If somebody can think of a better way,by all means chime in.

Do you have a shop manual?? Reading that and looking at the pics can help.
I wish I was there to show you,or do it myself.
Even better I can E-mail you pics of how I did itor expalin it over the phone.PM or call me if interested.I am just trying to help.
If you are at a loss, maybe you should take it to somebody.

Yeah you can get those plastic things at a good parts store for a couple bucks. They're even in the catalogs if they don't know what you're looking for. Every time I've ever done anythign with power window motors it was easy enough to just take the motor out and leave everything else in the door but I've never worked on a sattelite before.

On a car that has never had a window motor repair, it is unlikely that you can get to the window motor bolts anyway. In order to get to them, you have to drill into the door to see the bolts. That is why Leaburn said in most cases it is easier to remove the entire regulator assembly. If your car has the bolt heads exposed, then you can just remove those three bolts and the window motor will come right out (meaning it will fall, so hold it from the rear). Here is a pic of the window motor. The one phillips head screw shown is what you would need to remove to fix the gear inside. It is pretty straight forward once your inside of it, as seen in the next couple of pics. The motor in the pictures is the older style, but newer style motors have a different gear with small plastic cylinders within the gear for cushion as the window reaches full up or full down. I have made my own replacement cylinders with a wooden dowel and 1/4" vacuum line. Easy.

Remember, if you pull out some junkyard motors, use the ones on the same side of your car that you removed them from, or the polarity of the motor will be different and the switch will operate the window opposite of the switch position.

Picture 3, just grab the gear and pull it straight out. Turn it over and look inside the back. If your gear has the "cushions" you will see them, or what's left of them. Clean all the old grease out and replace the broken/missing pieces.
