usually the "Comp" versions were faster than the P/S versions - and the MatchRace versions were quicker yet

Searching for any photos or information about Westborn Chrysler Plymouth sponsored 63 & 64 Plymouth driven and prepared by Paul Rossi from Michigan. We went to the second round in S/S at the 65 winter Nats. Later drove a factory backed Comet.
Thanks,
Ken

Awesome footage Mike. Like to know where they found that. Be nice if one could find VHS or DVDs of drag racing from that period with the same quality. All I've ever been able to find is the lower res/no sound variety. Too bad the original sound/commentary wasn't apparently available with that.

ESPN had a show several years ago that looked back on all forms of racing. I think it was hosted by the late Larry Nuber. He was suited up and hosted the show from a library...can't recall the name of the series. They had one show that was a full half hour of Dick Landy. It was awesome and incredible footage. The Challenger that day was doing huge wheel stands when he'd dump the clutch. It was wild. The footage on the above link was at Ontario Motor Speedway and aired on ESPN as well...wonder too if that stuff is obtainable...when it aired on ESPN, I recall it having audio.

Show was called Glory days with Dave Despain. Those were old Road and Track video's. A friend used to have a copy of that episode, but can not find it anymore...

Any one have info on my old 68 Hemi Roadrunner? The original owner was Bobby Rhoads from Richmond,Indiana. He raced in the late 1970's with a best time of 10.13@131mph. He raced SS/DA in IHRA and won alot of bracket races at Muncie Dragway,Indiana. Tri-State in Hamilton,Ohio. Mt. Parkway in Clay City Kentucky and Edgewater in Cincinnati,Ohio. He campained a 1970 Black Hemi Cuda after he sold the Roadrunner. There was a sister car 1968 R/T "Rags to Riches" owned by Mike McClure.

I sold it to Rick Allison of "A&A" Transmisions in April of 1985.

Owner breakdown:
Bobby Rhoads
Dale McClure
Richard Carlin
Mike Alford
Rick Allison
now?

Just watched that vid again. Short of the awful music it's an awesome vid. Especially liked the in car footage of Landy hammering away on the clutch pedal of his PS car. There is a part 2 listed on there now. Still great footage, with a couple repeats, but this time with music that fits.

Only a little off topic, but I'm wondering if any of you either have already or have ever thought about building a replica Mopar SS car(?)..and I mean one with the car setup the same as it would have been for the year etc. motor, gear, et al. I've been thinking about doing my 68 383 Sat in that fashion, especially since I'm starting to see the retro thing becoming popular and this thread got me thinking about it again. First were the Gassers and Fuelers, now I'm beginning to see a whole lot of retro SS cars being built. Love the Hemi cars but be kinda neat to see a few 383 and 440 B-bodies done in that same fashion since there were and still are so many more of them. I've already run down the list and even the exact solid cam, intake, etc are still readily available for the 383s and 440s that were chiefly run circa 68-69. I saw the article on the S & M 68 440 SS/F GTX from the first thread and see they ran 4.56 gears in that car. Wonder what gears the 383 SS Roadrunners usually went with at that time. Thought maybe someone might know.

Funny you bring the subject up. I was dreaming today of doing the "A-Gas" thing to my `Cuda. It already has the engine set-back 9in.s. I would go with a straight front axle and that elusive and expensive HEMI. I have a "retro" paint sceme already picked out.
Anyone got a HEMI free to a good home?

Sounds awesome. A/GS 487 c.i. Hemi, Moon gas tank up front(think that'll fly?) B & M Hydrostick, etc etc all with to-the-wood launch RPM then hang on eh. Who cares if it's 2006, I say do it. Minus the Moon tank and Hydro stick of course heh. I've got some great video of blown gassers racing circa '65-'66. One of the sharpest Gasser Cudas I've seen is the Fred Hurst 70-71 Cuda. Candy red. Very sharp car back in the day, and I do believe it was a Gasser and not a Funny.
