cia - there were only 3 real Missile cars, the original 70 Challenger that was then changed into a 71 - the 72 Cuda - and the 72 Duster that was also changed into a 73 --- now to make it more confusing, there was also the "yellow" test car, the "wire" car and a D5 Colt.

Quote:
I wonder how many of the open body version are still around today. Who built them for Chrysler? How many where there? Where they given, leased or sold to the teams?
I hope this helps
From Bill Stiles:
Quote:
They built them special in 67 four or five i think, Sox, Landy ,Grother, Shirley Muldowney had mine, i bought mine in 70, maybe Reed can add something, there were some built every year after that, Sox got a couple a year !!!
and
Quote:
In 65& 66 they were crew cab dually's with like a morrison body on every one of the factory teams had one, they were supplied by Chrysler and we used a chevy pu to haul the 66 car!!!
The same mail thread hints that the racer's name was on a tag riveted into the door frame. No pics or solid info though.

This photo is from SS&DI when Bill was road testing cars for them. The trailer in the photo was Dave Strickler's. Check out the Hurst wheels on the trailer! Wonder were you got the Stiles and Strickler rig photos posted above?? LOL

The auction must have ended, I can't find it. Seller seemed to be Eddie Smith (WV Hemi) because the hemi b-cuda was for sale also.

What were the quickest ETs those Colts were running before they were no longer in PS competition? Were the Comp versions faster than the PS versions back then?
