Has anyone swapped from the INDY 440-3 intake to the 440-3X intake, and know the HP difference between the two? For those that have, and ET change?

Thanks.

We swapped out as above but we also changed from a 9375 1050 Dom to a Pro systems Dominator spec'd for our new (at the time) 572 combo. Thought we might give it a try on our 528. Car picked up straight away and eventually we whittled it down to just under 3 /10ths, combo picked up about 3 mph also.
HTH's up
EDIT: 10.20's to 10.00's (never broke that 9)

Really depends on the heads and cubic inch. The bigger the better.

Jeff...w/ your combo, I'd be leaning towards the 3X.

the 3x should help that out. think of it this way. 8 guys all want a beer. The bigger the keg, the happier the guys.

The 3X lost power on my 514 with EZ heads. I was making around 900 hp with that engine and figured the bigger 3X would pick up power but it went the other way. The best intake for my engine was a ported Super Victor. Your engine might like the 3X but don't be surprised if it doesn't.

Only way to find out is to test it. I had people telling me all sorts of stuff with my 514. Most people said it couldn't make 900 hp. Others told me parts would work and they didn't. Some said stuff wouldn't work that did work. Many of these people were "experts".

Comparisons ALWAYS prove the same thing. No comparison is ever perfect! There is always something different, and you might not find it! I tried to compare power levels between shortblocks, only to find out later there were serious issues with my front suspension (wobble at speed, couldn't feel it) and a trans in such tough shape i can't believe it worked as good as it did. Its like multiple A B A tests, showing the same trend, is about all you can count on when gains get small.

I agree.

On a 700-ish hp 557, the -3 and -3x power curves were so close from top to bottom it looked like you made two back to back pulls with no changes.

The two local motors that got built using the -3x(and nothing else was tested on either) were running 572-13 heads.
One is a 542, the other a 572.
I think it’s a good intake for big cubes, high CR, with high lift cams looking to keep the upper ranges of the power curve from dropping as fast....... even if that comes at a slight cost of max TQ output, and TQ output below peak.

It’s got a lot of runner and plenum volume, which may or may not be the hot ticket for certain combos.

Two 14:1 572’s. Same dyno, same dyno headers, same HP1150 carb, both have Jesel 1.7 rockers.
Both run on VP C-12.
Very similar cams.

One has 440-1 cnc345’s with a 440-2 w-4150/4500 adapter.(max Tq = 787.6/max Hp = 872.1)
The other has 572-13 cnc365’s with the 440-3x.(max Tq = 766.2/max Hp = 918.1)

The numbers are the TQ of the 572-13 compared to the TQ of the 440-1 combo:

5100- -35
5200- -28
5300- -32
5400- -16
5500- -15
5600- -4
5700- -5
5800- -0
5900- +3
6000- +8
6100- +3
6200- +1
6300- +10
6400- +15
6500- +21
6600- +21
6700- +33
6800- +37(that’s 48hp at that rpm)
6900- +29

What would be classified as BIG cubes, High CR, and high lift? Something like the combo I'm building? You already know more on the lift of cam I'm using, than I do Dwayne. LOL.

The object of the game is to make the car go faster.... as opposed to just seeing who can make the biggest number on the dyno.

I would think a car with a 6000rpm converter is going to be more forgiving to a combo that gave up tq in the 5000-5800 range....... than one that gets pulled right into that part of the powerband on every gear change.

The -3x might make a little more top end power on a build like yours....... but will that translate to a better ET?
There’s only one way to answer that.

Here is my best pull, 3x, 550 cubes, fully ported 440-1 heads, 15/1 compression, 285/296/114 cam with .848 NET lift intake, .800 net lift exhaust. Methanol injected.
