I first saw that 'Love Machine' GTX site some years back. Just wish he'd put some more info on the car such as what it ran in the class it was in, the motor etc etc etc. Nice car though. BTW, anyone know how they classed cars back then exactly? I see the 440 GTXs in old pics marked C/S in some then D/S in others(within same year). Far as I know a 440 GTX is a 440 GTX and with only listed at one ship weight(minimum weight). Usual class for those cars was always D/stock so what would one have had to do to get same car into C/stock? Have never understood how that works and aside from maybe adding or removing weight to a car I wouldn't know how you could legally jump back and forth from one class to another. Work same way in stock classes back then as it does now?

Hi guys: Looking for some pictures from 70-71 NHRA division III. I have a 1970 Hemi-Challenger that raced there those years. It was owned and raced by Wayne Warner during late 70 and 71 at Indianapolis Raceway Park and other smaller tracks around that area. It was Red with a Black fiberglass T/A hood on it. It said "Warner Brothers" and "Vissings Dodge" on the side at the time. In 1973, it was owned and raced by a guy named Gerald Gary! The car was still red but with no sponsors listed on the car. Both of these guys were from the Jeffersonville Indiana area! I know the car raced some Sox & Martin and Glidden sponsored cars. I really would love to have pictures or something about the history of this car from that time!! Patrick

How were the Dodge and Plymouth (RO/WO) cars classed when they first came out? I had always heard the older A990 cars would walk all over the Ro Wo cars and the guys who were running the RO Wos didn't even like them. Don't know how true all that is, but just looking at the info on the Ro Wo setup it would seem to me there might be some truth to that. They kinda look like they were tossed together from reg production line cars as opposed to being a specialized package car.

Patrick, I've been trying to locate Wayne Warner or his brother Steve for the last couple of years. If you have any luck finding either of them or pictures of the car let me know. Wayne was an Air Force Academy graduate so maybe they have his address. I just thought of that, and he was also retired from the AF.

The RO/WO cars were classed SS/B or BA - right in the same class as the A990 cars --- yep, did not make us happy at all --

In any case the RO/WOs seem to me to have been a somewhat hurredly put together deal. As of '68, what were the older A990 cars classed as? SS/B or C? Wonder why the older cars supposedly ran so much better than a 'newer' model.

The intake manifold, and carter carbs were the downfall of the RO/WO cars. The cross ram worked much better on the low end vs the stock street hemi intake. The just could not get the cars to leave the starting line, that is when banzaii starts started, and ended after 727's were being scattered all over the starting lines across the country. Racers were not happy with Chrysler for giving them basically a stripped down street car, they wanted a package deal like the A990 cars, thus the LO23-BO29 cars were built.

Wayne was an Air Force Academy graduate so maybe they have his address. I just thought of that, and he was also retired from the AF.
I located and spoke to Wayne about 2 years ago. He was living in North Florida at the time. He wrote me a 9 page letter about when he owned and raced the Challenger! He didn't happen to have any pictures of the car from that time! I know the history of the car from 1970- 1973. And from 1980 to present.
A guy by the name of Lee hafely from Lubbock Texas owned the car around 1979. I have seen copies of that title. 1973 to 1979 draws a blank.
I would love to find pictures of this car from its race days. I'd also like to get contact information for Mr. Lee Hafely. I believed he may have raced the car in Texas in the late 70's.
If you would like what contact information I have on Wayne Warner, let me know.
If you can help with any of this information I posted, it would be appreciated!
Thanks, Patrick

The '67 package cars were a result of Chrysler not making the '66 Race Hemi package cars that were slated to have all the same race mods as the '65 A990 cars had. Such as aluminium heads, crossram, aluminium frontends and such. I would love to make a '66 Coronet Sedan A-990. How bitchen would that be.
