I have a question for any of you guys who may have done any stock class racing back in the '60s. Around what period did the first 'cheater' type cams start being used? I know the NHRA gave up on checking duration some time ago just because it's hard to check accurately on these type cams, but when looking back at some of the 60s Mopar stockers I have seen I have always wonderred at what point they were closest to actual being just a blueprinted stock motor with headers as opposed to the radical cammed 'stocker' motors we see today. Would give a better idea of when the stockers were actually close to being stock. I know a guy who ran an F/SA 340 car back in 68-69 and he was running mid 12s but don't know if that was while still running the actual stock camshaft or not. Just a curiousity of mine.

I had noticed when looking at some of the old national records and just a listing of ETs by Mopar stockers at certain events from back in the day, that it looks like the performance of the cars really jumped around 68 or so.

I read an artical in Mopar Collectors Guide in regards to a Dave Wren Drag Racing a SS/EA 1971 Hemicuda Convertible. He won every division six super stock championship from 1967 to 1972. Does anyone out there have any information on this person or car. Pictures anything at all would greatly be appreciated. Thanks, Terry. Cell#813-610-5494, Eastern Standard Time.

I've always had an interest in the earlier S/S cars as well as stockers when they were still running 7" tires. Was it 67 or 68 when the 7" tire rule went out the window? I think Jere Stahl's 66 Hemi Belvedere A/stock car was one of the most dominant cars running at that time. He won about everything there was to win in '66, and again, on 7" tires going 11.50s before the year was up with the street Hemi. To me, the stockers and early S/S cars were pretty impressive considering the tire constraints and what they had to work with. A whole lot of learning about what worked and what didn't work certainly took place from say 61-66 as much or moreso than maybe other periods.
