I see Eastwood has a parts cleaner called metal wash-

Any good? I'm looking to soak a number of engine parts like rods, pistons, rockers, nuts, bolts, etc to get the carbon and oil residue off.

What do you use?

I use solvent based parts cleaner in an inexpensive wash tank. A nylon brush helps with a brass brush for tough spots.

I've never used the Eastwood product. The best decreasing product I've used is Marine Clean. Amazing stuff. I mix 4 parts water to 1 part Marine Clean for soaking and the next day most all the crud is at the bottom. Whats left brushes off. I spray on full strength and brush for parts that are too big to soak. Wear eye protection and a particle mask when spraying full strength.

The Marine Clean will take the carbon off pistons and rods with no problem?

Just let it soak overnight?

I use mineral spirits to clean parts. Cut's grease and oil great. It won't disolve carbon off the tops of your pistons. But will clean just about everything else including your oil based paint brushes.

I tried some biodiesel my friend makes from used cooking oil in my parts washer. It cleans really well and leaves my hands soft and smelling like fried food. I get hungry from smelling the tractor exhaust.

Can't say about the carbon on pistons, never tried it. It's worth a try. I'll bet Kroil or another good penetrating oil will clean the carbon for sure if the Marine Clean doesn't.

Marine Clean will work on the rods no problem...
