I'm not sure why, but the torque convertor bolts are hitting the lower transmission dust shield. It appears the flexplate is on correctly, so I am having trouble understanding what is causing this. It only happens when you rev it up a bit, not at idle.
The convertor is aftermarket 10 inch unit that matched up correctly to one of my flexplates.

Anyone ever experience this or got an idea what is going on here?

Wrong cover. You either have the shield with the groove for the large converter or the one with the grove for the smaller converter/plate combo.

. Both of those are THE most common. Sometimes you can get away with one or the other but highly unlikely.
I changed the converter, flexplate, and bolts on my car and drove it about 100 miles. Then we went on a 70 or so mile trip and when I stood on it hard through most of 3rd gear comming up a LONG steep hill, something rubbed and it sounded like I threw a couple rod bearings. I guess it was over 100 mph worth of air under the car made the cover flex enough to make the bolts hit it. I had to pull the cover and tweak it a bit, PROBLEM SOLVED.
Check it out. It's probably just something dumb like that, or a loose bolt.

Don.

I bet this is it. It seemed to me the "groove" was to far to the outside and that the torque convertor bolts couldn't actually be removed without removing the entire shield, instead of the small access panel. I am using the thin head convertor bolts.

Now, are these covers the same for 727 and 904? I am not sure I have a cover meant for the smaller convertor bolt pattern in either trans. Are they hard to find??

904 and 727 use different shields.
If it were the bolts they would more than likely also be tickling the rear block web too.
Are you using an after market converter in a 727. They usually use the small flex plate.

......Depends on your luck!! They used to be easy to find but no so much now. Small block covers are different on 727's depending on engine, 904's I believe are completely different, and big blocks have 2 bolt circle choices like you have. I think the smaller pattern is more common. Not 100% sure on that though.

Yah, just my luck! I have plenty of flexplates in either size, so that wasn't a problem. But I don't know that I have any spare dust shields.

I am using an aftermarket convertor.
Looks like a new search, I should be used to it on this car by now.

Thanks for the help guys!
