Anyone know what the black paint is called or code that was used on the mopars that came with black hoods.

Huge can of worms, probably best for the restoration board.

DITZLER DDL-9355 from ppg dealer is supposed to be the right stuff.

But...........

Lots of reading here, mixed results... and in many cases managed expectations

Videos might help

Wow, thanks zippy. Looks like I have some reading to do, but may use a satin because I don’t want the rough texture.

That stuff looks real hard to spray. I may just find something in a rattle can and spray it myself. I can’t remember what’s on my 6 pack hood, but it looks like satin black.

Does this stuff have the rough texture? I prefer smooth texture.

SEM is a very popular product. Any Auto Body Jobber in your area should sell it. Look up SEM Products to see who the distributors are in your area

Anything in a rattle can is an uncatalysed paint. Not nearly as durable, if you can spray from a gun you have lots of satin, semi-gloss, semi-flat options that are catalysed and more durable for a hood.

Definitely do it with a gun if you can. Much better odds of getting a nice even finish vs a paint can on such a large area.

Rattle can would only be temporary. I have two painters that can get it done in my offseason. I’ll search that out.

Do you know what all needs to be done to these AAR quality fiberglass hoods before painting? Can I just sand and paint?

Probably needs primed and block sanded a few times to locate and fix any waviness that most aftermarket fiberglass parts seem to have.

Mine definitely needs to be blocked a few times to smooth it out. I guess you could cheat a little if you were going with a flat finish, but it's not a hard panel to get smooth.

My neighbor is going to paint my hood. He paints for a living in his garage and does nice work. I am told there is a SEM paint kit that comes with every thing i need to get this hood painted. I filled the braces where i cut them, sanded and painted the bottom side with SEM rattle can satin black. Very nice paint, lays down real nice and has a nice finish when dry. Awesome paint.
