Before you me too much, I need to say that the [Mopar Performance] head bolts were torqued to spec but the motor was never run. Since the fresh mild rebuild, the basically stock 440 has sat for 6 months until a recently discovered bad 452 head (while getting ready to fire it up) is prompting me to just buy a new set of alummies.
I just think it would be a shame to throw out a basically new set of expensive MP head bolts!

WHY would you use expensive MP head-bolts to begin with .... on a iron block/iron head? You could use junk-yard bolts ! .... I have reused head-bolts many many times.

Now on the alum heads? ... that is a diff story. Me thinks that those are a one-time usage. So I have been told.

And I will know first-hand ....when I start using some later in the year.

ummm why not re-use them? I've re-used several sets. Some have probably been on 5 motors.

Use them with a harden washer.

Mine have been re-used once with no problems(Ed heads). The 440 doesn't use a "torque to yield" bolt so re-use is generally OK if bolts are in good shape.

I'm not sure but aluminum heads may require different length bolts with the recommended washers. Worth double checking.

Not sure what heads you have but I recall a bolt kit that is sold for Eddys or you use studs.

I want my fair share

I'm getting Stealth heads and they said not to reuse the "factory" bolts, the 6 point ones. And that aftermarket 12 pointers are OK cause they have the washer. Shouldn't just be able to put hardened washers on them and torque em down?

On iron heads the stock bolts should be ok.I changed mine with the MPs because I paid like 16 bucks for a new set when I bought them. The Eddy and Stealth heads you cant use stock bolts. You need the ARPs.They have the small head and the washers which must be used. They can be reused as they are not stretch to yield bolts.Rocky

I've used stock bolts on stage 6 heads w/washers, and also had eddys that stock bolts really do NOT work well on. (need smaller headed bolts).I almost always re-use head bolts and have only seen about 50 head bolts break ever, and most of those were GM 2.5 4 cyls.
