OKAY --- THIS IS A TEST
IF YOU ARE AN OLD-TYMER, LOOK CLOSELY AT THESE TWO COMPARISONS --- TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE "RESTORATIONS" :-(

I take it there were no blue engines in the S&M Dusters?

What bugs me are the nostaligia cars with modern wheels like convo pros. Yeah those are good looking wheels but they sure as heck aren't nostalgic.

I agree Bob. Now I know I'm not the only one who feels that way about the wheels. Love to see the old B-bodies with either typical of the time, Cragar SS, Keystones, or even a combo of chrome reverse on rear with either Keystones or Cragar SS up front. Drag Stars/Lites. Convos etc, all great wheels but defenitely not resto. While you can't always expect too much in terms of motor specifics maybe, because some old components may be near impossible to find, I really love it when I do find a restored drag car and it's done to the '9's all the way down to the same cam/pistons/intake/ignition et al in the motor along with period wheels. Maybe I'm an oddball but that's just how I like to see the cars, just as they were though maybe not always possible.

Maybe the blue paint was a distractor to cover up something unbeknownst to the competition...

Jake King looks like he was about to cuss someone out in that shot . Is that Buddy Martin turning wrenches in the other pic?

Jake was a Ford man before Mopar. So were S&M . In the early years they used Ford's red white and blue up until around 67 or 68 when Chrysler found out and made them change

OK, that answers my question - the Duster engines weren't blue

I'm confused now.

Fred said that Mopar noticed the blue paint in 67 or 68 and required Orange - that was before S&M was running a Duster - I know the Barracudas had blue engines and was wondering about the Dusters.

This mystery could be as simple as what leftover paint was on the shelf in the garage at the time!

I think for me anyway it boils down to this. I love those cars, and am in no position $ wise to even clone one let alone resto an original one that is still around. With that, it is a bit frustrating if someone who does have pockets deep enough to have one of those doesn't at least take the time to do it right. And not saying that to offend anyone. They spend the bucks to do it, then want to put them on display for others to enjoy, so take the time to check the details is all I like to see. It's interesting to learn on here about these details that guys like Fred and Stuart and any others who know these things provide. Maybe some of these restoreres would do well to contact one of you in the future, lol.

This is a shot from Ubly Dragway in Michigan mid-60's...http://www.ublydragway.com/images/UblyBW5.jpg http://www.ublydragway.com/images/UblyBW4.jpg one of the racer's father took the photos. I work there today as the burnout-box operator! Track is still in operation for over 45 years....

Nice pic. You don't see that many pics from back then from the rear/behind the start line like that.
