Yeah I need to learn about small blocks. I had no idea a stock small block ( factory block) could make that kind of power and not hurt something. My question would be, how long will it take it? Very interesting build for sure.

A magnum block is stronger than any production LA block except maybe a TA but even then I think I would take the magnum. It has stronger metal you can feel when grinding clearance for strokers, it has some more meat around where the mains meet the pan rail and some other little goodies. I also see in those pics he tied 3 of the cam bearings together with a home made brace since he was not using the factory roller lifter set up.

Very interesting build for sure. I am curious about that as well. I have asked in the past on here (because someone coined the phrase "split a block") who has "split a block"? No replies. No photos. No proof. When production Gen 3's are almost up to 900hp with 5 years warranty you can be certain 800hp LA's are well within reason. Much enjoyed the post, thanks! Imagine this build on a street car with the 4.25 crank. That's where I'm going.........

I am glad I shared this article and imagine this: No arguments, no political junk. Here we are talking about Mopars on a Mopar website. Who would have thunk it?! PS, I would love to see your project if you have some pictures.

Great build. We had several threads about this samemotor on here about a year ago. After it was built, and pre dyno He actually screwed my shortblock together for me( Jack Barna) great guy. Been friends with his dad a long time, they are local here in West Mi

PS, I would love to see your project if you have some pictures. I've studied the ls7 and the big flow, big lift numbers......factory. I've studied the Gen 3's and their big flow numbers.......factory: I don't see why 700+ torque in a six pack 440 small block isn't doable on a street car with untouched Victor heads. My problem is the aftermarket reliabilty of the rockers. So, unless someone tells me Hughes rockers will last 80,000 miles I won't be doing anything. On paper, it will work though.

I think I read that BB stamped rockers will work on the SB victors.
On a side note, I split a 273 block from the main bearing to the cam bearings on all 5

I think I read that BB stamped rockers will work on the SB victors. I would have to have visual proof of this. As for splitting your 273, again, photos to back up your claim, please.

On my stock block and W-2s I had BB roller rockers on it(they were packaged as SB rockers) but I had issues with them from the get go till I started measuring them.. The portion that was on the valve was long and they needed caps.. at about 7000rpm they would kick out the caps.. I had a pile of cap in the valley.. glad I screened it.. soon after I got SB ones then things were fine and it would rev like it should have and didnt need caps.. I learned alot

Yes Dave, I have yet to see 525 pounds of cast iron "split" into pieces. Even if you tied it to a couple of D8 Cats in opposite directions I doubt you could tear any engine block apart. This from a former Heavy Equipment Operator and Metal Worker. There's a few videos of 2000hp, 100psi boosted tractor pullers shearing the head bolts off and throwing parts everywhere, is that what you were doing with the 273?

A friend has built a few engines with these heads and tends to steer his customers toward T&D rockers. He has used the Hughes rockers on one or two engines. Harland Sharp sent him out a rocker system, but it was so far away from working, it was sent back . I believe the arms were BBM units, I've got pictures somewhere.

The windage control tricks are cute, but how are you going to mount a trans to that with the oil drain line in the back of the block? Looks like a purpose-built dyno hero.
It may be ugly, but it sure is slow.

There were suppose to be some early Magnum blocks that were cast and drilled for shaft oiling. That block appears to be one of them.
1988-1992 5.9l/360 were supposed to be roller cam, but block still drilled for shaft oiling LA style heads. I imagine the partial fill with hard block probably helps stabilize the cylinders at the .100" overbore.
