Did the 68 Runner have the VIN or production number stamped on the core and if so, where was it stamped. Does anyone have a picture of the stamped number

68 are kinda tricky,

VIN sequence number will be stamped on the engine block on top of the bellhousing flange and on the transmission.

The build sequence number on the fender tag will match the body number sytampings on the radiator support and rear quarter panel edge (trunk).

No digits off the VIN on the body, sorry.

Starting in 69, it all makes sense

with Domingo.

Additionally, there is a sequence to the radiator and trunk lip stamp.

The format is

First Letter = Assembly Plant
Second Number = Model year of vehicle
Third Letter = First letter of car line
(R = Belvedere / RM 21 or 23)
Last Six Numbers = Shipping order number
(Last six #s on the bottom line of Fender Tag)

Sample = A8R279740
