Some are blind and some are not.

Someone else said they were never lucky using this gasket.
Sealing the pan up is not about luck, it’s about being thorough.

It’s been a while since I ran a study at work, but if I recall the pan flange has to be flat within .013”. That means you cannot insert a .013” feeler gauge between the flange and flat surface.

The most common issue with stamped steel pans is when someone has “bell mouthed” the bolt hole areas in the pan.
That usually happens when someone tried to seal the pan up by over torquing the bolts when using a cork or composite gasket.

Again, you can’t over tighten the reuseable gasket because the plastic backbone prevents that. You will strip the case bolts before that happens.

I didn't say I was never lucky, I said I never had any luck with it, meaning it wept on every pan I used it on. I run the bolts up snug then go corner to corner and around torqueing the bolts to 150 inch pounds. The rubber gaskets I've used have been done using the same method and haven't wept.

The basic thing is make sure the pan rail is flat because the bolt holes get pulled up and then the pan won't seal.. They get warped over time. I have used the reusable gasket a number of times and never had a seepage issue. Didn't use sealer either.

I had a Fairbanks cast alum pan on my CARS and many of my rebuilds and NEVER had a leak problem with a cork gasket ......,,

REMEMBER........

The pan bolts are torqued to INCH POUNDS ... up
